TPF - Tong Pak Fu in Penang

There was a boycott call on the TPF on the internet when a TPF spokeswomen, a ceebrity chef from Hong Kong said that Penang Food is so difficult to consume and TPF is offering  tasty delicacies to the local people. I think this statement was not appropriate  and stupid even if she do not like the food in Penang. TPF have immediately issued an apology but the damage is already there.

As a brand name ambassador, the person should have the wisdom and grace as it represent the image of an organization. Any slip-short comments could bring enormous harm  the brand's reputation. Can we say that TPF's food is lousy and expensive ?  If the Chef have been smart and wise, she should know that the taste of food is very subjective., As I have mentioned in my earlier article, one man's food is another man's poison.

Based on my past experience, I have my own judgement and reservations.  I find that the degree of sweetness, salt, bitter, spicy , etc vaires with each individual. No one person have the same liking. Just like our six senses, there is a combination of these factors to make  up a recipe and finally its taste.

The six senses of  hearing, taste, sight, smell, touch and thinking will determine the feeling and the final interpretation whether the food is good or bad.  If any one of this factors change even in a slight degree, the final result could be different.  As I have also mentioned that when managing human beings, the outcome is always unpredictable.

Why is the food is affected by these factors ?  If you think logically, you will know  and understand these factors.

1) Hearing : Why is this factor relevant ?  Lets say you are eating a western cruisine but the music at the restaurant is playing a Chinese folk song.  What would be the taste of the food ?  It would be compromised isn't it?

2) For the factors like taste, smell and sight . It is the basic ingredients of a good food according to the culinary art.

3) What about touch and thinking :  These are external factors but if you think carefully, if there is human touch when preparing the food , the taste will be different.  The mood , passion and the well -being of the chef is very important at the point of preparing the food.  If he or she is unwell or their mood is bad, the ultimate result will affect the taste of the food.  So, what is the relevant of " thinking" ?  This is one of the important factor. The upbring, influence and knowledge of an individual person will determine his or her likes and dislikes.  For example, in Tibet, they serve the yak butter , to the Tibetians that is their basic diet and food but for foreigners, it has a very strange taste. Another example is Thailand's Tom Yam Kung, which is voted one of the best soup in the world but its spiceness is not tolerable by many people.

All variation of each factors will determine the outcome of the final taste of the food served.  So, the TPF spokesperson is so silly and she did not understand the basics in serving food.  So, TPF should immediately  replace her before their business is damage by a stupid remark.

It is not the fault of TPF but the stupidity of one person. Lets not boycott TPF and give it a try to judge it yourself instaed of depriving yourself of this option.

I am not a qualified Chef or Food Critic and this is my personal experience based on the six principles in Buddhism.  The basic awareness of our hearing, sight, taste, smell, touch and thinking.  The control of our mind relating to these precepts will bring us enormous wisdom and benefits.

Namaste.
