Meditation in a pose.

I having missing my yoga class for the past two session due a flu and a cough which I catch on the  plane and  I was down for  a few days,n during my return flight from Bangladesh.

This morning , I was feeling better so I decide to attend my yoga session,  My teacher started with the usual routine and finally, we did some serious stretching exercise.  When we were in a firm pose, she told us that we can actually go into a meditation and the peace and calmness.  It was an amazing information.  The meditation will take away the pain from the practice and shift it somewhere else.  Yes, we can relief pain by shifting our mind's focus.

We repeated the process by doing a sitting stretch , with two of our legs point straight and lover our hands to catch hold of our leg.  We bend our leg first but straighten it , pulling the hands with the sore of the leg and stretching the body.  We have to kept this pose in tension and us the tip of our tongue to touch the bottom  acing side of the tongue and push the tip of the tongue against the palate.  This position will hold to our mind and focus and it will relax our body which generate peace and calm.

I remembered that I read a bout about Ajahn Chad,  a deceased head of a Thai forest monk. In his book, he said that it is not necessary to meditate on a lotus position. Meditation can be anywhere and on any posture., Nevertheless, the lotus sitting posture is  a balance and firm position which holds the body up firm and well. So, the body can concentrate on the task of meditation.  So, if we keep our body firm , stretch and in balance , we can go into meditation and its firmness helps to support the meditation effort.

The practice of meditation should be under the guidance of approved masters or gurus because sometimes, the practioner intentionally go into meditation for a long while because of the peace and calmness but it became too passive and he or she could drift into illusion and a make-believe world. When we are in meditation, there are so many platforms to choose and we may drift into something harmful or became astray.

Please be careful when you are practicing and there should be absolute awareness.

Namaste.
