Thai restaurant at Tan Jetty, Penang

I have heard about this restaurant many times before and my friends have good words for it.  I have casually told my wife about this place and last night, she suggested that we go to this restaurant.  My daughter M and her BF followed as well.

After the foot reflexology at Wisma Penang yesterday, we set off to the restaurant. It was not difficult to locate the restaurant because all the jetties ie Chew , Tan and lim fetties are located next to each other and once, this location was make up of several fishing villages.  The lim, Chew and Tan jetties are occupied by the decendants of the three big families in the Chinese Civilization. The place have since grew from fishing viillages to several several food outlets.

We parked our car on the main road facing the main jetty and took a short walk to the Tan jetty and there was a sign board indicating the Thai Restuarant.  They never mentioned the name but just call it the Thai Restaurant at the Tan Jetty.  We have to talk a short walk among the  wooden houses and at the end of it , we saw the Thai Restaurant.

The restuarant was located at the edge of the sea and there is several tables of diners  but it was not full. My wife ordered several Thai delicacies like pandan chicken, Tom Yam Kung, a curry fish, fried kangkung and an Otak. The captain of the restaurant is a Thai and the workers looks like Bangladeshis. Frankly, the food was only average and nothing special. I wonder why it was so famous among my friends. Well, it could be the dishes  we have ordered.

The scenery was quite nice facing the sea and the weather was cooling last night as lately , it was raining. The feeling is quite good as you can see all the wooden houses lining a bridge leading out to the sea. I could see alot of tourist walking towards the sea using a long wooden bridge.  If you let your senses loose abit , you could imagine the simple life at the various villages whose occupation is going out into the sea everyday fishing in their sampans.  It is a quite and simple life couple with peace and tranquility.

Anyway, the place and the weather help to compensate for my disappointment in the food. Nevertheless, it was a good experience and it has solved my curiosity about this place.

Namaste.
