Knowledge and Ego

There is a saying " More knowledge less ego, less knowledge more ego".  Is this true ? Generally, this is true . If we read more , we become wiser and through wisdom, we will understand ourself more and also we will be aware of our ego.  Through knowledge, we awaken our awareness and by this awareness, we will try to manage or elminate this ego.

On the other hand, less knowledge is difficult to open the door of awareness in ourselves. It will take many years of experience  to acquire this awareness of self and ego.  It is through reading of others' thinking and experiences , then we will raise the level of awareness in ourself. Some of the experiences is not in the path of our growth and we do not have the chance to experience and learn from it. So, by reading , it speeds up and widen our chance to know of ourself and the behaviour of our ego.

In conclusion, the statement is correct and very fulfilling. But,  the latest twist to this philosophy is from the Dalai Lama.  Knowledge without action or engagement does not defeat ego. So , by knowing it is not enough, we have to engage it and take actions to push the awareness to diminish our ego.  We have constantly engage it and face it  and take action to humilate it so that it can be manageable or eliminated.

Total elimination of the ego is not possible.  It is just like a bad habit and it keeps returning to test us , it constantly undermine us and it persistently try to revive itself.  It is just like finger nails, we cut but it grows by itself and we have to constantly cut it to keep it at proper length. One day, we may put it out if we are tired of keeping it at bay or the pain becomes too pain.
So, Knowledge without engagement would not diminish our  ego. So, engageme  is the key and persistently facing the ego will make the ego  aller and weaker and will  gradually be eliminated.  Never turn away from our ego and wo cut e have down , once it show its ugly head.  Never let it grow and gets stronger. Otherwise, it takes over you and make you a different person.

Hence, Knowledge and engagement equal an egoless self and that is the real you.

Namaste.
