RSVP - sent by a friend, KT.

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that
Person..
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need
You have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with
Guidance and support,
To aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
This person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an
End.

Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire
Fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has
Come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy..
Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons,
Things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional
Foundation..
Your job is to accept the lesson,
Love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other
Relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life,
Whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Heal the world - don't waste food - exts

HEAL THE WORLD*

Theres a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could
Be much brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
Youll find theres no need to cry
In this place youll feel
Theres no hurt or sorrow

There are ways
To get there
If you care enough
For the living
Make a little space
Make a better place
Heal the world
Make it a better place

For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
Let this be remembered.. . each time we throw away Food!

As times goes by as I sit and watch...

The thoughts of  Brother James’ condition unsettles me and make me more aware of the passing time. If you are given the death warrant, the limited time become very precious and demanding.  There are so many things to do and yet the ending time is coming soon. This irony is like filling a jar with pebbles and sand. Which one we put in the jar first ? If we put in the sand first, then we can only put less pebbles. If you think the pebbles are the main issues in your life, then you put in the pebbles first because the space in the jar is limited.

There is also a theory of 80:20 rule or the 90:10 rules which illustrate that people spend 80 percent of their time doing 20% of their urgent or important task while spending 20% of their 80% important task. Often the minor task as very minute in details and is the most time consuming. Just like issuing a cheque to your supplier, if you issue a 10 ringgit check and a 100,000 ringgit cheque , the task and process is the same.  If we are aware and realize this wisdom, we should take care of the important task first. It require the same effort and time.  The same is with the 90:10 rules.

In the meeting with with Brother James, he also told me and my wife that health is the most important and we should avoid stress and strains. It is very simple to understand as health is wealth and without health , the wealth is nothing.  But, we have these mental habits which drive us in all our actions and decisions. Sometimes, it is an auto pilot which drive at great speed even if we want to slow down. It is as if the body mechanism is out of control and moves on its own. Yes, the years of learning , experience and exposure which have create us today.  The molding of the daily routes and experience have charted our behavior and response. How we handle a task and at what speed is already fine-tuned in our body and leash out automatically without any thinking. So, is that you or somebody else?

Most of the time, we eat our food very fast and without realizing what we are eating. We have been advised that we should chew our food 50 times before the next spoonful but we just automatically eat and at the end of it, we do not know how is the taste and what we have eaten.  We could have eat a mouse or cat but we are not aware because of roaming mind and thoughts. Slow and take each bite consciously and tell yourself whether it is salty or sweet or flat. Take time to be aware.  Saying is easy, we can do it one or two times but we go back to our old habits in a matter of time.

We are what we are and what we eat we become.  The same theory applies to our thoughts , what we think we become. Break away and be aware and conscious all the time. If we think good, we feel good and we feel relax , we are relax.  We are the master of our own mind and not the other way.

So, live well, eat good  and think excellent and you will have the abundant positive vibes with you.

"One day wind and next day rain "

Like the weather, our fate is forever changing and there is a Hokkien phase " one day wind and next day is raining". Yesterday, it  was sunshine in the morning in the evening and night. Fate can change unexpectedly. Like I say don't take things for granted and tomorrow is never guaranteed.

The grip of fear facing the uncertainty of death is the most  scary thought in all living beings. I noticed this feeling in Brother James when I met him yesterday at this sky condo in Penang. He is here because of the flooding in Bangkok and is back in Penang to avoid the disaster and to seek continuous treatment of his Cancer and dialysis in the Penang Hospital. His appetite was not good because his condition have deteriorated.  He has not been able to continue his Chemo treatment because of his low blood counts and Chemo is the only treatment to keep his Cancer at bay.

My wife and myself meet him when we brought him lunch at his request and it is chance to see him. He was down and expecting the worse as his cancer gain an upper hand. He told us his condition and he is prepared to GOD to come to take his hand and lead him to Heaven. My BIL, J have been giving him Christian songs to listen and he especially like the Hokkien song about God's grace and willingness to take him when the time is ripe. A drop of tear came out from his eye and he gently wipe it off and I sensed the feeling of sadness. He is not prepared to go yet and he has been fighting the disease well when I saw him in his previous trip to Penang.

I asked him about his religious belief and he told us he is a Buddhist but he is not seriously into the religion and is not attached to any temple. He told us that he believe that there is only one GOD and all the religions lead to the same GOD. Whichever religion we choose , it is the same GOD.  He also said that he believe that the first GOD is an Indian GOD  because the Indian religion is the first religion. I did not pursue the matter and I told him that I also a Buddhist but I did not elaborate further. Actually, Buddha is not GOD but a great teacher and Buddhism is not a religion is a way of life to avoid sufferings and to attain Enlightenment.  I told him it is better for him to pray and chant which could bring peace and understanding in life. But ,he told me that he is restless and have no space for religion.

Yes, I have many experience seeing my friends and relatives suffering and most of the time, they withdrawal inwards and live in their own world. They are caught in the blaming game and struggle within their inner self. Like what Ajahn Brahm have taught us, they are not only suffering from the psychical sickness but  their Mind is also sick. If we look at it logically, the body is sick need not mean the Mind must be sick. They are two different part of the body but are well connected.  We need a strong Mind to break this bond and connection and we will be able to think differently. Well, I know it is easy to say than done but on the other hand, if the end is unavoidable what is the purpose of having a sick Mind. It can only make it worse and not just that, doubly worse off.

Coming to an unavoidable end, the only way is to learn to give up  the material things in life and learning to giving up at the last moment is a very difficult thing. We have to gradually loose our grip on our material wealth during our life process by gaining more wisdom and understanding of our purpose in our life journey.  It is not difficult to die but it is our reluctance to give up what we have in the present life which makes the going tough. Well, death is unavoidable and tomorrow is never guaranteed, so live and live and live.

It is a sunshine day....

It has been raining the last few days and I did not managed to see the  bright morning sun.  What a welcome sight and it really turns away the gloomy feelings. In Thailand, there is still massive flooding and the Thai Government have declared a 5 days emergency holiday in Bangkok and it was reported that the flood may overflow the river banks and the worst it yet to come.

The Malaysian authority is also predicting thunder storm and heavy rain for certain part of Malaysia.. It may happen or it may not happen but life still have to live on. It is funny that if we see sunshine as it that it will be there forever and when it is raining, it is out of the blues. Our mindset is always looking at the bright side of things and when bad weather come, we curse and swear but bad weather is part of the eco system. Without rain, it will not balance the nature and the whole eco system will fail.

Just like in life, there is sunshine and bad weather and we have to take it as it come. We do not only learn to dance on a sunny day but if the rain come, why should we change our mood . We have to live as usual and do other activities under that condition.  The changing weather will last forever but our time is running out. Why we have to stop on raining days to live our life in full.

If we are living in the Sahara dessert, we will welcome the rain and it is surely change the mood and makes us more relieved.  It is a blessing to experience rain in the dry area . While in the tropics, it cause havoc and unpleasant feelings.  Well, GOD is fair, isn't it ?

There is a popular saying " one man's meat , another man's poison". The solution to an issue is like a double edged sword, it cuts both ways. A blessing as well as a curse depending on the prevailing circumstances. We have to be aware of this ever changing situation in order to live peacefully. The ever changing conditions in our life needs us to adjust our condition as there is no permanent fixes for a lot of factors in our life. The process of growing old, our fixed thoughts while the external factors are changing so fast/. If we don't adjust, we will be living out of this world.

My message is that don't take things for granted and be prepared to adjust and live within your means. Either adjust to your living according to your wealth, health and the conditions of your love ones.

Aspirin for hereditary cancer prevention - report

Aspirin slashes cancer rate for those with hereditary risk

(PARIS-AFP) - Long-term, daily doses of aspirin led to a fall of some 60 percent in cases of colorectal cancer among people with an inherited risk of this disease, the journal The Lancet reported on Friday.

The trial -- considered to be broad in sample and long in duration -- confirms evidence elsewhere that aspirin has a protective effect against cancer of the colon and rectum, it said.

The study enrolled patients with Lynch Syndrome, a fault in genes charged with cellular repair that leads to colorectal and other cancers. Lynch Syndrome occurs in around one in 1,000 people and accounts for about one in 30 cases of bowel cancer, The Lancet said.

A total of 861 patients were randomly designated to take either two aspirins daily, for a dose of 600 mg, or a harmless dummy pill, known as a placebo, for at least two years. They were then regularly given colon exams.
When the data from this study were first examined in 2007, there was no difference in colorectal cancer incidence between the groups. But things changed when the researchers checked again a few years later.

By this time, there had been 34 cases of colorectal cancer in the placebo group but 19 in the aspirin group -- a reduction in incidence of 44 percent. The doctors then looked further at those patients (60 percent of the total) who had been taking the aspirin or the placebo beyond the two-year minimum. In this sub-group, the figures were even more impressive. There were 23 cancers in the placebo group, but only 10 in the aspirin group, amounting to a fall of 63 percent. The difference began to be seen after five years.

In the light of this discovery, further research has been launched to see what is the best dosage and duration of aspirin treatment.
"In the meantime, clinicians should consider aspirin prescription for all individuals judged to be at high risk of colorectal cancer, but taking appropriate measures to minimise adverse effects," says the paper, headed by John Burn, a professor of clinical genetics at Newcastle University, northeastern England.
Last year, a study also published in The Lancet, found that rates of cancer of the colon, prostate, lung, brain and throat were all reduced by daily aspirin use. For the colon, the risk over 20 years declined by 40 percent.
Many doctors recommend regular use of aspirin to lower the risk of heart attack, clot-related strokes and other blood flow problems. A downside of extended daily use is the risk of stomach problems.

Alcohol after heart attack have positive impact - study

Alcohol linked to better survival after heart attack

(Reuters) - Women who drank anywhere from a few alcoholic drinks a month to more than three a week in the year leading up to a heart attack ended up living longer than women who never drank alcohol, according to a U.S. study.

The findings, which focused on more than 1,000 women and were published in the American Journal of Cardiology, add to mounting evidence that alcohol, regardless of the type of drink, can be good for the heart.

"One thing that was interesting was that we didn't see differences among different beverage types," said Joshua Rosenbloom, a student at Harvard Medical School who led the study.
"The most recent evidence suggests that it's the alcohol itself that's beneficial."
There was a similarly reduced risk of dying within the follow up period whether the women drank wine, beer or hard liquor, Rosenbloom and his colleagues found.
"One drink a day is a really good target, assuming that a person can be disciplined about that," said James O'Keefe, a cardiologist at St. Luke's Health System in Kansas City, Missouri, who was not involved in the study.

Researchers surveyed more than 1,200 women hospitalized for a heart attack. They asked questions about how many alcoholic drinks the women usually consumed, along with other health and lifestyle questions.

After at least 10 years of follow up, the team found that 44 out of every 100 women who had abstained from alcohol had died, while 25 out of every 100 light drinkers and 18 out of every 100 heavy drinkers had died.

This translated to about a 35 percent lower chance of dying during the follow up period for women who drank, compared to those who didn't.

In an earlier study including men and women, O'Keefe found that people who continued to drink moderately after having a heart attack had better health than those who abstained.
"You don't need to assume that people need to stop drinking once they develop heart disease," he said.

"The problem is that alcohol is a slippery slope, and while we know that a little bit is good for us, a lot of it is really bad."

Sleeping together under the same blanket ?

Yesterday, I read a posting by my daughter’s friend in the FB and she question our mindset regarding our thinking if we saw two person , one male and one female sleeping together in the same bed and under the same blanket ? Most of us will jump to the same conclusion that they should be lovers. But, No.  She said that it not necessary that they are lovers and it is only for the warmth and the passion like caring for each other.

I happen to discuss this issue with a colleague and she told me that in this generation, this scenario could be true. Best friends , whether they are male or female can just sleep together and nothing happens. However, for the older generation, this action will be unacceptable and there is a Chinese saying “ that paper cannot wrap around fire”.  This saying means that there is a  strong passion or sex urge between two different sex and  the love fire will ignite. My colleague told me that my thinking forms the majority of the opinion in yesteryears but now, it is the minority’s opinion and if we don’t change our mindset, we will out of this world soon.

It frightening how the thoughts have  evolve  and we are returning to the world of no possessions. Like in the song, Imagine, John Lennon have preach the philosophy of no possession and there will be more peace. True or not true, like or you don’t like , the world is changing. Human possessing each other is getting obsolete and life long partner is a thing of the past. Divorce or single mothers or single person is the trend today. The idea of the a complete family have also change much and a single parent can do a better job that two incompatible couple who quarrel and fight each day in front of their children.

I think I am convinced that whichever works well for each person is fine and there is no fixed formula. If the process have evolved and change , so let it be and it maybe better for the world.  Let it be and lets live as the choice belongs to each person and as long as they are happy then that should be fine whether it is one night stand or sleeping together under the same blanket, why should it bother you ? Why you want to be the Hero and try to change the world or reverse their mindset ?  Live on , pal and this is not your world.

Teasers - for all you know - exts

Q:Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left?
A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right! And that's where women's buttons have remained since.

Q: Why do ships and aircraft use 'mayday' as their call for help?
A: This comes from the French word m'aidez -meaning 'help me' -- and is pronounced, approximately, 'mayday.'

Q: Why are zero scores in tennis called 'love'?
A: In France , where tennis became popular, round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called 'l'oeuf,' which is French for 'egg.' When tennis was introduced in the US Americans (mis)pronounced it 'love.

Q. Why do X's at the end of a letter signify kisses?
A: In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X. Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfill obligations specified in the document. The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous.

Q: Why is shifting responsibility to someone else called 'passing the buck'?
A: In card games, it was once customary to pass an item, called a buck, from player to player to indicate whose turn it was to deal. If a player did not wish to assume the responsibility of dealing, he would 'pass the buck' to the next player.

Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast?
A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host's glass with his own.

Q: Why are people in the public eye said to be 'in the limelight'?
A:Invented in 1825,limelight was used in lighthouses and theatres by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatre, a performer 'in the limelight' was the centre of attention.

Q: Why is someone who is feeling great 'on cloud nine'?
A: Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud. If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares.

Q: In golf, where did the term 'Caddie' come from?
A. When Mary Queen of Scots went to France as a young girl, Louis, King of France , learned that she loved the Scots game 'golf.' So he had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her. In French, the word cadet is pronounced 'ca-day' and the Scots changed it into 'caddie.

Q: Why are many coin banks shaped like pigs?
A: Long ago, dishes and cook ware in Europe were made of a dense orange clay called 'pygg'. When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as 'pygg banks.' When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made
a container that resembled a pig. And it caught on.

Q: Did you ever wonder why dimes, quarters and half dollars have notches (milling), while pennies and nickels do not?
A: The US Mint began putting notches on the edges of coins containing gold and silver to discourage holders from shaving off small quantities of the precious metals. Dimes, quarters and half dollars are notched because they used to contain silver. Pennies and nickels aren't notched because the metals they contain are not valuable enough to shave.

The softness of the heart.

Sometimes we are very kind in our thoughts and actions and this softness of our heart becomes our burden.  Even when we are at the disadvantage, we still do not rock the boat because there could be uncertainties.  We do not know the outcome and maintaining  the existing balance is the best option for the peace of mind. If we don’t think about it, it don’t exist.  But, I think it should be the other way.  If you don’t think about it, it doesn’t mean that it is not there.  If you solve the problem, you could be better and happier.

There is a real example which really exist and it is a waste because it support inefficiency and incompetence. Lets say you have a house for rental and you rent it out to a tenant and that tenant through the years have become your friend. The rent per month for the shop have not increased through a few years of tenancy because your friend’s business is not good.  He is losing money from his poor business and you are getting less rental because it was below the market value. But, he can tolerate the losses because you have been subsiding him.  Do you think it is viable anymore for both parties ?  And for how long ?

Both parties is suffering but you are able to maintain the good relationship but you get lower rental.  If you increase his rent to the market value, he has informed you that he will not be able to continue. Both parties are living in a compromise and both barely survive together while compensating each other.

In conclusion,  it is better for your friend to stop his business and operate in a cheaper premise or closed his business and work for someone while you can get better rental income unless the business can get better in the near future. If the outlook is negative, such inefficiency only caused misery to both parties.

It is a hard decision to make because we have a soft spot but it is not the solution and we are wasting a lot of time and resources. We have to be realistic and do not make unnecessary sacrifices for nothing. It may seems that both parties are helping each other but it is not because it is pure wastage.

Balinese Massage - 1st floor, Heritage club, Penang

This afternoon, we used our last coupon for a Balinese massage session. We bought the coupons two years ago, when the massage spa open for business. After two years, they still honour their commitment and I really admire them for their honesty and generosity.  If it was  one of the food coupons, it could have expired long time ago. It was a two hours session and it was perfect session for a hot afternoon, hiding away in an air conditioned room.

The spa have recently gone through  a renovation and it has become more tasteful and pleasant layout. The last time we were there was a few months ago and usually, we choose it on a public holiday.  I did not know any of the people at the spa and I believe the masseurs from Bali, Indonesia could have change a few rounds since the opening of the spa. We leave it to the counter  promoter to recommend the masseur for us.

I have to say that it was a perfect selection for me.  I was requested to change my clothes and rest on a massage couch and get ready for the massage. My wife have chosen the oil massage for me and the masseurs have such a power grip and internal strength.  My body was quite stiff because of the yoga training. Well, most people will think that yoga training will make our muscle soft and tender. Sorry, fellas. It actually put power into our hands, legs and our whole body.  I have become muscular since I start the yoga session.  Anyway, she gave my whole body a good rub , running her fingers along the nerves and muscle linings . It was followed by the process of cleaning the oil from the body using hot water  bags. During the process, she will heat up the hot water bags and place it at the appropriate spinal points. It stirred up a warming sensation and it was relaxing after that . The process was repeated on different part of the body  and it was very comfortable after the session.  In the previous sessions, one of the hod is to use heat up stones and they place it at the vital and sensitive points.

I would like to recommend to all of you to try it but please note that it was a bit pricey.  For the two hours session , it cost about RM120 for one person.  It is really worth it. Once awhile, our body needs some pampering and if we pay attention to our body , our body will response with more positivity and love.

Is the globe turning faster ?

This morning I had Tim Sum breakfast with my sister and she suddenly pop out a question , why is time passing so fast " I told her maybe it is the globe turning faster but then, the clock ticking as usual. What happen to our senses because each time we met our friends or relative, we always remind each other that time have moved on so fast.  This is our normal greetings especially when we refer to our children  who have grown up so fast and moving to college or universities or working. The lapse of time seem so fast ,like a quantum leap.

If we look back,it was like yester years but our parents could have been dead like 10 to 20 years already. It is as if with a blink of an eye. Nothing seem to change except they are no more around or we have aged another 10 to 20 years. How many 10 to 20 years do we have ? If lucky if may be one or two rounds more and if destined, it maybe less. What can we say or do except to wait until the faithful day while we continued to live at our best.

If we continue to live in the routine and comfort zone, it will be like living in a circle and we would not notice the difference because we are living in our comfort zone. If we break out of our circle of life and do sometime different, then we will feel that we have real live and enjoy our life. It maybe a small or big break but doing something different  will wake up our sense and adventuring spirit and make our comfort zone bigger.  Living without a  purpose and dwelling in our comfort is just another day and we will lose another day which makes our life shorter.

It will make us feel good if we stretch our limit of comfort and living area. It  is just like breathing ,if we have shallow breath, it makes us lifeless or inactive but if we take deep breath of air and force it into our lungs, we become more energetic and  aware and we will realize our potentials around us and will seek happiness by venturing externally or internally.  Yes, time and come and go, we will continue to live at our best and stretching the limits of our comfort and living. We want to live.... really live.

The external triggers

I wrote some thing about tipping point when our emotional outburst is pushed towards the fine line and suddenly, boom! the shits hit the fan and out pouring of resentment starts. It is like a runaway train and you have to put your brakes before it gets too late. The person taking the blows also gets heated up and he or she is also pushed to the wall and waiting for the moment to hit back. Such face off is not good while we cannot control our emotions.  It is not us and we realize it but the criticism or scolding just get out of control. This is really weird.

I realized that our frustration controls our logic and emotions. Probably, the person have done something which have hit our nerves previously before the faithful encounter and such image is store in our mind and sitting in the quiet corner of our mind and wait in deep silence. The anger starts to intensify after that particular person said something wrong and these wrong words draws the experience from deep in our mind and let it explore in the heat of the moment. The force coming from this resentment increased in strength in multi-folds and hammer us into leashing out our anger at our opponent.

At this moment, we failed to see the person and we actually see nobody and will not be able to recognized her but it just like leashing out the Wing-Chun punches in rapid speed and continuous repeated actions. Yes, we have lost control but after we gain focus and know that we have exceed the limits , we try to pull back and save the situation.  The damage is done and we have to find a way to balance back the negativity we have generate so much heat. The other person have hit so many times and it depends on her to struggle with his or her self. If he or she is wise,  he or she will realize that it is only a moment of madness and insanity and everything said is nonsense and immature. Everything will be back to normal when the focus is adjusted to back to reality.

The temporary loss of self and dignity or the moment of madness due to the pent up feelings is something , we need to realize to manage. We should counter the thoughts and out burst and make sure that we  remained in control and kept our sanity. The lapse moments is actually very damaging to us and the people around us. Those words which we should not use at all is sometimes uttered at the particular moment and the hurt could be irreparable and damage a relationship permanently.

We have to find a way to erase the images of anger or displeasure in our mind by awareness  and maintaining our consciousness of self and the external triggers or  image which could gain the control of us. We should think positively or wisely and identify images and defused at the particular moment. Once, it is stored in the brain, it will hide in the corners and sit there waiting.  We should not let them stay in our mind , otherwise we forget their exit and once, it is stirred up, it will gain control of us.

Act immediately to defuse the anger and erase the negative images and you will have a more rational judgment in the things we do.

Slow breathing reduces stress - news

TOKYO (Reuters) - Want to reduce stress and improve mental focus? A new app that promotes slow breathing may help.

Called MyCalmBeat, the app uses a heart rate monitor that attaches to the ear to detect a person's optimal breathing rate, or resonant frequency, which is unique to each person.
At this breathing rate, the company says the user can increase the variability of their heart rate to lower stress levels.

"People don't realize the profound impact that slow breathing can have until they actually sit down and do it for 10 minutes and then they feel completely different," said Savannah DeVarney, vice president of product marketing for MyBrainSolutions, the creators of the app.

After finding their ideal breathing rate, animated exercises show users how to breathe at that rate, while the heart monitor provides feedback about the variability of their heart rate.

"Normally people think of 65 beats per minute as a good resting heart rate. But we're not necessarily looking at heart rate -- we're looking at the degree to which the space between consecutive heart beats varies," DeVarney explained.

When a person is stressed their heart rate becomes consistent and variability is minimized. But when relaxed, variability is maximized, slowing down as you breathe out and speeding up as you breathe in.
"We know that for most people their resonant frequency is between 7.5 and 4.5 breaths per minute. The software maps your heart rate variability through each of those rates to find the breathing rate where it becomes maximized," said DeVarney.

This frequency remains consistent throughout adult life, and usually only varies during childhood or pregnancy.
DeVarney said the company collaborated with Dr Richard Gevirtz, a professor at the Alliant International University in San Diego, California, who conducts research in heart rate variability.
She said in people who meditate for hours increased heart rate variability is one of the
characteristics of being in a highly relaxed state.

"Meditators will find their resonant frequency naturally through trial and error, so we know that there's something in that."

Other biofeedback-based heart rate monitor apps include Instant Heart Rate which uses the iPhone's camera to detect a user's heart rate, rather than an external ear clip.

The company recommends training ten minutes a day, three times a week.

The app is available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry.

There is a new hope for cancer patients in Malaysia. A vaccine widely known for treating late-stage cancer - almost all types of cancer, except leukemia - is now available in the country. The Human Initiated Therapeutic Vaccine (HITV), which was only available in Japan previously, is able to completely destroy microscopic and tiny nests of cancer cells, thus preventing any future recurrences.

Discovered in 2005 by Dr Kenichiro Hasumi, a Japanese physician and researcher, HITV is an autologus (patient derived) active cell-based immunotherapy for metastatic or late-stage cancer patients. It is based on immunology that harnesses human immune system’s innate and adaptive ability to combat diseases. Dr Hasumi, founder and chairman of Hasumi International Research Foundation in the United States, has dedicated more than 40 years of his life to find a cure to cancer.

Speaking at a media conference today, Dr Hasumi said the therapy was highly effective for patients suffering from late-stage cancer, when used in combination with radiotherapy. “The use of tomotherapy (a type of radiation therapy) is important in this protocol. It can target the tumors precisely in one sweep, while reducing the radiation exposure to the surrounding tissues,” he said. The treatment includes harvesting immune cells from the patient, culturing them in the laboratory to become immature dentritic cells, and then re-introducing them into the patient’s body, through injection into the tumor. HITV course takes about three weeks, with 10 days of actual treatment. Patients will have to be examined with PET-CT scan after the treatment periodically, to monitor the tumors for regression. Five out of nine patients show complete response

While the treatment was only available in Japan, nine Malaysians suffering late stage of various types of cancer have decided to give it a try. Five of them have shown complete response. They include Goh Sai Wah, 58, a non-smoker who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer with extensive spread to the spine and bone in May, last year. She underwent the HITV therapy in Japan on Oct 30, last year and in her follow-up check, six weeks later, almost all cancer cells had disappeared. Now, 365 days later, and counting, she is very much alive and well. Dr Hasumi said since late stage cancer was a very difficult stage to cure, he hoped that in future, there would be innovations to cure cancer in the early stages. HITV therapy costs about RM200,000, if patients decide to have it in Japan. In Malaysia, it will cost about RM150,000.

The therapy is now available at the Mahameru International Medical Centre but medical practitioners are trying their very best to introduce HITV to all hospitals in the Klang Valley, in an effort to give late-stage cancer patients a new hope in life

Where is the pressure coming from ?

I was a bit tense as I was requested to received an award representing a project which I have spent so much time and energy .  It was a well worth project and we deserve to be awarded. It should be received with pride and honor and I should be happy to be one of the key members in the team. But , I feel pressurized and tense. Why ?

I think it might be because I was already in my senior years and such achievements should be received by someone younger . In my younger days, I have been receiving such awards especially in establishing new ventures or setting up new frontiers and of course, many other awards for achievements , cost cutting and innovations.  I was picking up awards during the early part of my careers like the Sultans giving out the Datos’ award every year. There is a joke that if you throw a stone to a  group of people, you will hit a Dato in the heard

Later , when I gets into my senior years, I became shy and humble to receive such awards and I have been staying away from the lime lights and start living in a low profile. I have a few years of quiet life and staying away from the radar and help to promote projects in the back rooms while pushing the young ones to stand up and go for the awards.

The awards have cash awards and some recognition of our leadership and achievements although, it is not much.  My wife have been telling me to give the merits to the young ones and I have been faithfully following her advise.  Even  my boss have told me that it is time to promote other people to have such creativity and leadership.  I think he is very wise in this movement.

This is perhaps the reason for my tension. Am I holding to my job for too long and depriving my staff the opportunity to advancements ?  Am I over staying ? I am not sure but I feel that I can still contribute and enjoy contributing to the success and advancement of  my Company using my experience and knowledge to provide the necessary guidance.  But, there is a time to let go and I will know the time when I have to move on.

The spirit of giving and sharing

Hav\\\\\ing more is a measurement of success, comfort and stability. We are taught from young that we need to work hard and save for the raining days but we are not taught how much is enough. So, the logic is the more the better, the bigger the better and eventually, money is power, so the more we have, the bigger is our recognition and more respect we get. Where is the end and also how to achieve this level of success.

When we study at school, college and universities, we want to be the best? We aimed for the number of As and we are recognized by the number of As. When we join the rat race, we try to run as fast as we can and to be in the leading pack. We want to be Usaine Bolt, running below 10 seconds. We continued to be struggling to be the best and earn the most. In the process, we saved our earnings and try to become rich and the richest if possible. What is wrong with that? It is our rights and achievements, we do not bother other people. Let it be me, ok?

Yes, there is nothing wrong and it is perfect alright and acceptable. But, we are forgetting that we are connected in many ways and no man is an island. Everything in the world is inter-connected. What we do affect the Mother Earth, what we eat affect the eco system , what we use and dispose affect the future generations. We have to learn to understand what is going around us, what we can do to make the world a better place to live , what we contribute to make society more safe to live and work. If we start to only consider what is good for ourself and disregard our surrounding and society then things will start ot get worse. We have to do our part rather than letting others carry our burden.

Another point we are missing is to enjoy the fruits of been compassion and live in the happiness of giving and sharing. If you cannot finish an apple share with your friends instead of throwing it away or leave it to rot. If you have been successful, give your knowledge back to society by teaching the poor, if you are wealthy, share you excess with the charities instead of leaving too much to your next generation. Understandi the fact that little is much and excesses breed weakness and laziness.

Spend sometime to think about my message and make some arrangement towards achievingthese goals. If it comes from your heart, you will feel its greatness and the satisfaction in life. Don't wait until tomorrow is your last day, then you write in your will to give and share. Do it when you are alive and enjoy the moments of compassion and loving kindness. Why do you have to wait until you are dying or when you are dead before you decide to give and share. You will not know how satisfied you are. I have seen many cases of people giving only when they are sure they don't need the riches anymore after they die.

You are do it differently, it is your choice and you will make the world a happy place to live it for everyone.

The illegals became the powerful

My obersvations is that there are so many illegal operations or stalls in my area. Of course, I understand everyone needs to find  the means to survive but it has to be done according to the law and respect of other people's right.  Having said that, evil spreads at the silence of the goold men. Not only, the evil spread but it become more powerful and became abusive to the rights of human mankind.

Last night, I had a bad experience as I drove my wife to buy dinner for my daughter.  I saw a car reversing out from a parking lot and I drove my car into the slot and suddenly, a motorbike came into my way. So, I honked that fella and he move to the side and let me park.  I looked around and there are several angry faces staring at me and I realized that the biker was one of their gang.  A gang of illegal DVD sellers operating a stall and under the comfort of a 5 foot way.  They have wanted the space for their customers to park their bikes while I have occupied unintentionally. The grlare of these illegals operators were threatening and unpleasant. But, they did not attempt to engage me in a tussle as I alos stared back at tthem to show my displeasure. Why should I give way to illegal operation and what rights do they have to be angry.  It is absolutley nonsense and I was tempted to photograph their operation to lodge a complain but this would invite trouble for me and my family.  Quietly and silently, I have to swallow my anger and suppressed my righteous thoughts. Often this is the case that is why the illegals are operating like cow boys and in lawless state..

This expereince brings me to talk about another case of illegal operation which involved  a stall and the illegal operatior carries out this business in front of his house which is a non commercialize area and near to a police barrack.  This operator is very smart and operates only four days in a week to avoid detection. He operates next to my sister's house and he is very arrogant and nasty.  He house is in such a bad shape and dirty while he drives a brand new car. His customers parked all their cars along the sides of hte main road and they block half the road on the left side. All the oncoming cars have to stop or slow down to avoid any nasty disaster on unexpected people crossing the road or from a car coming the oppersite direction. Why he has become so powerful ?  What is the police doing about it ?  Is the police  only working on a 9 to 5 ?   or they are blind in the night ? I wonder what is wrong with the traffic or legal systems.

These are only some examples. Will the righteous or the authorities do something and let the other silent half live in a more peaceful manner. Can someone using the reason to earn a living exceed the legal rights of the other people?  Hope someday, the lights will come with the darkness receding to the minimum.

Phones not related to cancer - study

Mobile phones don't hike cancer risk: Danish study Fri Oct 21, 2011 3:06AM EDT LONDON (Reuters) - Mobile phones do not increase the risk of cancer, according to a large study involving more than 350,000 people by Danish researchers published Friday.

The results, released on the British Medical Journal's website, chime with a series of other studies that have reached similar conclusions. Scientists from the Institute of Cancer Epidemiology in Copenhagen looked at people aged at least 30 who subscribed to mobile phone contracts and compared their rates of brain tumors with non-subscribers between 1990 and 2007.

Outside experts said the large scale of the trial was impressive. "This paper supports most other reports which do not find any detrimental effects of phone use under normal exposures," said Malcolm Sperrin, director of Medical Physics at Britain's Royal Berkshire Hospital and Fellow of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine.

At the end of May, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer decided cellphone use should be classified as "possibly carcinogenic to humans," putting then in the same category as lead, chloroform and coffee. But just over a month later the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection's committee on epidemiology said the scientific evidence increasingly pointed away from a link between mobile phone use and brain tumors.

The number of mobile phones has risen hugely since the early 1980s, with nearly 5 billion handsets in use today, prompting lengthy debate about their potential link to the main types of brain tumor, glioma and meningioma.

Chinese girl dies in hit-and-run that sparked outrage Fri Oct 21, 2011 6:52AM EDT By Ben Blanchard BEIJING (Reuters) -

A two-year-old Chinese girl run over by two different vehicles and ignored by passersby died on Friday, state media said, in a case which ignited public uproar over what some called a moral numbness seeping through society.

Both drivers who ran over the girl have been arrested, but Internet users have flooded microblogs decrying the apathy of the people who left her for dead, after graphic footage from a security camera of the incident went viral. Wang Yue died of brain failure more than a week after the accident in Foshan in the far southern province of Guangdong, Xinhua news agency said. "The hospital went all out and made utmost effort to save her. But ... her injuries were too severe and the treatment had no effect," Su Lei, the director of the Guangzhou Military Hospital's intensive care unit, told a news conference.

The surveillance video from the October 13 hit-and-run, aired by a television station, shows the girl run over by a van, which drives off leaving her to bleed on a narrow street. More than a dozen people over the next seven minutes walk or drive past the girl on bicycles and she is run over by a second truck. A woman then pulls the girl to the side of the street before her mother, a migrant worker, rushes into the frame. China's economic boom and the growing disparity between the rich and poor have made changing social values a contentious topic, with some lamenting what they see as materialism replacing morals. "Now people have become so selfish. So many people walked by but no one helped her because they didn't want to get into trouble," said Yang Yaying, a 21-year-old Beijing resident. Wang's death quickly became the most talked about topic on China's popular Twitter-like microblog service, Sina's Weibo. "I hope that this little angel who was discarded by society can act as a wake-up call to the nation about the importance of moral education," wrote one blogger, "gongzai xiaoben." "Hope you can find some love in heaven.

This world is full of apathy," added "Winter space." Xinhua said her father had received more than 270,000 yuan ($42,280) to help pay for Wang's medical treatment, with donations flowing in from Chinese people all over the world. INTROSPECTION A senior provincial social worker, Liu Runhua, said he did not believe the case reflected a wider malaise in Guangdong. "Those who ignore the dying make up only a handful of people in the province," the China Daily quoted him as saying. "But cases when dying persons aren't given help, or when good Samaritans get into trouble, are often widely reported in the media, which tends to make the public concerned." The provincial capital, Guangzhou, plans a law to protect good Samaritans and give rewards of up to 500,000 yuan for such actions, the newspaper added.

The provincial Communist Party chief, Wang Yang, urged "searching reflection" on the incident, the official Guangzhou Daily reported. "Take active and effective steps to raise the moral standards of the entire society," he told a meeting of province officials, according to the paper. "We should look into the ugliness in ourselves with a dagger of conscience and bite the soul-searching bullet," Wang also said, Xinhua reported separately. Many people in China are hesitant to help people who appear to be in distress for fear that they will be blamed. High-profile lawsuits have ended with good Samaritans ordered to pay hefty fines to individuals they sought to help.

Hitting below the belt - rascals

In a boxing match, the rules only allows a limit blows  below the belt and if it exceed the limit, the fighter will be disqualified. Recently, the incidents of hitting below the belt is getting excessive and the authorities are turning a blind eye to these incidents. Even in a water Polo game, you can only allow to chase for the ball above the water and often the dirty players commit offense under the water and trying to pull down the under wears of the players to commit a blind foul.  This type of attitude is intolerable and disgusting.

No matter what happen , we should only forecast on our opponents and if these dirty acts is spread to family of the opponent particularly the wife or the under aged children, it is unthinkable and rubbish.  Yes, these dirty players would  be like animals or rats. They should be skinned alive and burn below recognition.

If the dirty player claims foul because their opponent is the same, this action have degraded them to the level of the rat. Two wrongs don’t make one right and if we think of correcting a wrong by using the wrong method , then the situation will  worse off and there is no difference between the two wrongful acts.

We know the dirty fields in politics but we should try to play fair and don't degrade our self to the level of the rat. Rats live the gutters  and so , they call it gutter politics.  This is the lowest of the lowest in the rank of fair play. We have a choice and refrain from this area of darkness and if you stay in this environment and live among the rats, you will naturally live or re-act like a rat.

There was a study on the slimming or dieting exercise.  The area where you stay affect your diet and also your weight. If you stay in a more polish neighbor, you will eat the proper meal which is provided or available in the area but if you live in the gutter areas, then you are exposed to fast food or unhealthy eating habits. Some those poor people who live in the cheap neighbors are mostly obese and over weight.  There is a Chinese sayings “ if you are near the dark spots,  you will be black , if you live near the white spots, then you will be white”.  Your background influence what you are.

Steve jobs' wrong cancer treatment

Oct 20 (Reuters) - Apple Inc <AAPL.O> co-founder Steve Jobs refused potentially life-saving cancer surgery for nine months, shrugging off protests from his family and opting instead for alternative medicine, according to the tech visionary's biographer.

When Jobs eventually sought surgery, the rare form of pancreatic cancer had spread to the tissues surrounding the organ, biographer Walter Isaacson said in an interview with "60 Minutes" on CBS, to be aired on Sunday.

Jobs also played down the seriousness of his condition and told everyone he was cured but kept receiving treatment in secret, Isaacson said in the interview, excerpts of which CBS released on Thursday.
Isaacson confirmed details that had previously been speculated upon or widely reported, including that Jobs might have been cured of his "slow-growing" cancer had he sought professional treatment sooner, rather than resorting to unconventional means.

"He tries to treat it with diet. He goes to spiritualists. He goes to various ways of doing it macrobiotically and he doesn't get an operation," Isaacson said in the interview.

Jobs deeply regretted putting off a decision that might have ultimately saved his life, according to Isaacson.
"I think that he kind of felt that if you ignore something, if you don't want something to exist, you can have magical thinking .... We talked about this a lot," he said.

The biographer did not specify which surgical procedure he was referring to in his interview ahead of the Oct. 24 release of the biography.

Jobs announced in August 2004 that he had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his pancreas. In 2008 and 2009 -- as his dwindling weight stirred increasing alarm in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street -- he said first he was fighting a "common bug," then that he was suffering from a hormone imbalance.
In 2009, news emerged that he had undergone a liver transplant.

Help me make it through the nights

Recently, I heard the song, “Help me make it through the night”. This is an old song and I used to sing it during my college days and it brings back good and bad memories. The bad memories are sleepless nights when I have my exams. It was like cold turkey treatment , with my eyes staring at the ceiling all alone.  Lying on my bed with my eyes wondering and my whole body burning up coming from my roaming eyes.  Wow ! If only I have a partner to talk to and release my stress.

So, singing this song brings out my feeling of loneliness and frighten feelings. So, scare and my wondering mind going in circles , switching from one thoughts to another .  Feeling uncomfortable but do not want to take any medication to ease the pain.  It is so desperate to get my eyes to relax and sleep. The sleepless nights affect my performance the next day especially it was exam time.

At that age, no time for romance and my focus was only in my study. No time and space for girls and just going through my study day and night. Sound so desperate. Yeah, some people told me that if I get my degree then I will be free.  Finally, I got my degree but I am still not free until now.

It is a matter of choice. Whether I want to continue working or not.  It was my choice and I am so scare to face it. Whether it is right or wrong , life have to go on.  I am in a comfortable routine despite all the work pressure and peer pressure and shall I break away and retire.  Some people told me that  retiring is a bad choice because our mind will stagnant and we will die faster.  Retiring means death and it really scare me. Is it really so ? I can pursue my other interest or start a new chapter in life.  Going away from the comfortable routine can be so uncertain ?  I really don’t know and I am facing this dilemma very day.

To all those people, who have retired before me, what say you ?

She is such a bad character

The day when my KL aunties visited Penang. Auntie MC and Auntie Hua was sitting in a long table at Auntie MC's sky condo over looking the Gurney Sea. The topic was about a watch.  A branded watch which Auntie G brought from Bangkok and trying to sell it to Auntie MC's daughter. For your information, Auntie G's husband, Brother James operate a pawn shop in Thailand.

The evil scheme was unveil when Auntie Hua say that Auntie G was offering to sell the branded watch for RM10K as the new one would cost RM20K.  The brand of the watch was told to the Aunties daughter and then to her future son-in-law K and to whom it may concern. Anyway, it does not matter and Auntie Hua's daughter, J happen to ask her boy friend K, who is Auntie Hua's future son-in-law  on the branded watch. Being a computer savey guy , he went to the Internet to check out the watch and found out that the watch only cost RM10K new. This news was circulated to all the Aunties and there was a " hoo and a haa" and fire works start burning.

At that meeting in Penang, Auntie MC still do not believe it but she finally say "How can she  to do this to her sisters?". Why , why , why.  Tell me why..... She said it with sadness.  Well, dear , it is just bad character. Some people are born to steal from other people or con or live on people through their lies and skirmish actions. They apply the old saying " human being is not for themselves, the sky will vanish and the earth will split into pieces". These people may not be wrong because some people want to be abused and some people want to abused by you. It depends on which type of people you are, Or there could be a third type  with changing fantasies.

Yes, bad characters....devilish and demons. It is in their core and they are wolves in the sheep skin. They are not what they look like. They strike big and hurtful. Bloody ...... fellas. Well , this is the imperfection in the world  and this makes it interesting. The contrast in mankind gives us variety in life and challenges as well. We have to live and accept imperfection and we will be peaceful.  Really mind you, these hard core devils do exist and could be everywhere or near you. Beware and aware so as not to be bitten.

Healing miracles for burns - blog exts

Keep in mind this treatment of burns which is included in teaching beginner fireman this method. First aid consists to spraying cold water on the affected area until the heat is reduced and stops burning the layers of skin. Then, spread egg whites on the affected are.

One woman burned a large part of her hand with boiling water. In spite of the pain, she ran cold faucet water on her hand, separated 2 egg white from the yolks, beat them slightly and dipped her hand in the solution. The whites then dried and formed a protective layer.

She later learned that the egg white is a natural collagen and continued during at least one hour to apply layer upon layer of beaten egg white. By afternoon she no longer felt any pain and the next day there was hardly a trace of the burn. 10 days later, no trace was left at all and her skin had regained its normal color. The burned area was totally regenerated thanks to the collagen in the egg whites, a placenta full of vitamins.

The thoughts of revenge.

I was told of a former colleague who is coming to visit my office and the thoughts of resentment rose in my heart.  He was a bad character and in the past he is using my achievements to claim merits and  boost his image among his bosses.  He was transferred to another back to his home country and was subsequently posted to a neighbouring country. When he came around last, he wanted my support to bring him back to my Company as a more senior person.  Of course, I did nothing and he failed in his ambition.  This time, he is coming as a GM of an Accounting Dept from my head office.  The thought of him brings back unpleasant memories and I know that his bad karma will one day catch up with him.

This thought brings me back to the serial show on astro showing at 9.30 pm to-night.  The story was about a very wealthy man who took revenge on his brother and the people close to him due to some misgivings.  As the show progress, he realized that he was wrong and his wife almost gone mad because of his revengeful attitude. His son-in-law almost killed him after a serious quarrel and he was in a coma and he recovered later. After his recovery, he lost his memory  and subsequently, his memory return to him but he continued to pretend that he has lost his memory. He was a completely changed man.  He let his son-in-law and daughter to handle all his business and retired to his home and took up a small job in his son's business.  The son-in-law tricked his daughter into transferring all her shares to his name and he review his plot to the businessman.  He has used his wife to steal all the man's fortune because of revenge.  The man have humiliated him or insult him as the scum of the earth. This story review the revenge and counter revenge and in the process innocent people was hurt including the revenging parties. Most of the times, anger blind our eyes and closed our ears and we resort to revenge to seek justice but the expense of our integrity or morality. It is very strange and if we realized it, it is so meaningless.

Yes , anger leads to revenge. My thoughts of resentment is the starting point of an action to seek revenge. I have dis-associate with my colleague and I have distance from him. This act only hurts me. He may have forgotten what he did to me or have placed no importance ,while I am still brewing with anger at the thought of him. What do I get for been angry ? I am only hurting myself. My untamed mind keep playing the video in my heart and try to instigate me to initiate an act of revenge.  A small fire at the stare but gradually  litting it up into a big fire. I have to be aware of this starting thought and killed it as the awareness come instead of fanning it or letting it burn and become a big fire. A small fire needs only a blow to stop it but we have to bring a fire engine to stop a big burning fire. The end result would be more damaging to ourselves.

There is a saying " one eye for one eye " and leave everybody blind.  Sharpen our awareness and the understanding of our mind. The monkeying mind and the mental habits, If you attain this simple awareness, you will realize the operation of anger and you will kill it at its bud. Peace will come in every steps after you attained this wisdom.

What is happening to the human race ?

Mum of Chinese hit-and-run victim calls rescuer 'a good person'  Asia | Updated today at 01:20 PM GUANGZHOU (CHINA DAILY/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) -

Despite critics' disparagements of the woman who rescued a 2-year-old girl this past week in Foshan, Guangdong province, the girl's mother said she believes the rescuer is a good person. "I don't have enough words to thank her with," the mother, who would identify herself only as Qu, said at the hospital on Monday.

Her praise was for Chen Xianmei, a 57-year-old woman who moved Mrs Qu's daughter Yue Yue to the side of a road after the girl had been run over by a van and a truck in a hardware market this past Thursday. Before Mrs Chen came to the rescue, 18 people had walked past Yue Yue without helping her.

A number of shopkeepers close to the accident scene denied that they had witnessed what had happened. Mrs Chen was the first person to offer help.

The passage of time.

I would like to tak about time. When we were young,we always look forwardd to festive seasons like Chinese New Year, Moon cake festival and others. but when we are in our twilight years, we look forward to the slowing coming of these festivals and we tend to notice that time is passing by very quickly. There is is a Japanese swings : less is more. the less remaining years we have , we would treasure time even more.

As my sisters and brother sit together for a meal or chit-chat, we will be talking about our childhood days and the happy days when my mum will cook all kind of things for us to eat. We were poor but we were very happy , busy fighting each other, challenging each other to fight or imagine I am zorror or supermma.. the Beatles was very famous then. Life was a bliss and we were happy chasing after all festivals. It was so strange that we want time to pass so fast. What are we waiting foe? This is also another favorite question. We just want to share our inner thoughts and to get concurrence the we are heading for the operation.

They say life is a dream but a dream is like life.

The exercises of loud laughter, silent laughter and horse laughter shown above, the warming up exercises of muscles and joints, preceding them and the breathing exercises, succeeding them, straighten and loosen the abdominal muscles, the spine muscles, the diaphragm between the abdominal and thoracic cavities and the muscles on the face. A walk through Komtar

The car park was full and I have to wait for another car to come out of the car part before I can go in to park my car. Yes, there are other car parks located in different locations of the shopping mall.  The car park was the one below the Penang Chief Minister's office. It was near the place I was going to visit.

After going up the escalator, I proceed to walk towards Prangin Mall. The last time I visited Komtar was many months ago and to my surprise the place was getting more and more cleaner and well lighted up.  There was a corner to show the history of Penang and now , I could see that the State Government have included Malacca. As I walk along into the open space, I could see that all the make shift businesses have gone.  It was quite messy when it was under the previous BN government.  As I walk along , I notice the space previously occupied by lifestyle super mart was covered into a row of  IT shops leading the way to the entrance of Prangin Mall.  It was a welcomee sight as it was brightly lighted up and a long row of shops selling all the computer accessories. The route from Komtar to Prangin Mall was a dark path and eerie place to pass through.  Ow, I could see that Komtar have been gradually improved and upgraded.

The founder of Komtar was the late, Tun Lim Chong Yu. He was responsible to create the silicon valley of Penang and also the Penang Bridge. He is no less capable than the late Steve Jobs as he had build the foundation for the Great Penang. So, the effort of the current Chief Minister , Lim Guan Eng have done a very good job in maintaining the good image and reputation of the core building in Penang which house the CM office.

Lets put politics aside and we open our eyes to see the difference in Penang after three years of Opposition rule. The heritage buildings have been repainted and renovated to capture its previous glamour and the streets are more cleaner and the development have been at very fast pace and vibrant. Hopefully, things will continue to happen positively for Penang.

It was not the end of my walk. On my way back from Prangin Mall, I passed through the 4th floor of Komtar. The place was still clean and lighted up but many shops have closed their business due to the lack of traffic of shoppers. This level have become a haven for small entertainment and food business. It was very quiet and this is the sorry part of my walk. Good space goes to waste. More efforts needs to promote the place as a shopping paradise.

Coming to the real fact, there are many new Malls are coming up on the Island.  Apart from the QB,SQ and GP,  the work in progress is on for Paragon Mall, the Bellview Mall, SP Mall and the rejuvenated Island Plaza mall. Some of the Malls are still at the planning stage. However, the population  of Penang is still the same and gradually growing , so the same people are going to these Malls on the off season period except during festival days and the school holidays. For retirees, we can go to one different Mall per day to window shopping and spending our time there if our legs can carry us. Maybe the investors are thinking long term, that is build today and cater for tomorrow as the land is in limited supply  and the calculations cannot be wrong.

Yes, it will come a time, when the retirees can visit two different Malls per day in a week but can our legs carry us. One day , the supply would exceed the demand and it will based on the outstation visitors or tourist. This will happen on the opening of the second bridge and many cars will be on the island. Can the narrow streets of Penang handle this influx? If nothing is done, there will be massive jams and the peaceful life in Penang will be  gone. forever.

I-will, a popular trend in Briton : news

iWill: Britons leaving heirs "digital inheritance" Fri Oct 14, 2011 2:44PM EDT By Paul Casciato and Sarah McFarlane LONDON (Reuters) - Britons are now including internet passwords in wills to ensure their online music, photographs, videos and other digital data are not lost when they die, a British study showed. Around 11 percent of the 2,000 British people surveyed by the Center for Creative & Social Technology (CAST) at the University of London for their "Cloud Generation" report said they had included internet passwords or plan to include them in their wills in a trend that CAST labeled "digital inheritance." "It's an area that will become increasingly important given, for instance, the monetary value of music collections and sentimental value of photograph collections - fewer people now keep hard copies of either," the report quoted Steven Thorpe, partner at Gardner Thorpe Solicitors, as saying. "Cloud Generation" co-authors Chris Brauer and Jennifer Barth used 15 in-depth case studies and the larger poll to investigate the implications for people whose personal and cultural keepsakes increasingly exist only in the so-called cloud -- online services run on remote computers rather than one's own PC. In the course of their study, they discovered people naturally wanted to save valuable music, photos and videos for their own use during their lifetime, but now increasingly are seeking to preserve those things for their heirs. "It's that it's representative of your identity, of who you are," Brauer told Reuters on Friday. Brauer said they discovered that "digital natives" as -- he called them -- now instinctively rely on the cloud to interact, save, store and share their personal tastes and data. The idea of digital legacies appeared when they asked cloud users what they would rescue if the house caught fire. "They said: 'I would go to my computer, email my photos (and other digital treasures) to myself and then leave the house'," Brauer said. What happens to people's online identity and activities after they die has become a growing issue with the ubiquity of cloud computing, digital memorabilia, social networking and an aging generation of Internet users. For example, social networking site Facebook allows a deceased user's profile to be taken down, but will not pass on passwords to give next of kin access to the account. The use of smartphones and other gadgets has also increased the amount of online services people use -- including storing movies, emails, family videos and work data. About 25 percent of respondents to the report believed that by 2020 they would no longer print photos and 14.5 percent thought they would not own any physical books.

Today I stare at anger in the face.

It was supposed to be a simple lunch among three three colleagues. A phone call came and the mood totally change. If I had hold back my question , the lunch could have been a breeze. But , I choose to throw the question to my colleagues and the whole world gets dark. It had to happen , otherwise, I would have chosen a different path. The storm blown directly at my face and I choose to calmly absorbs it. People say that the true fact is ugly and the same was anger. Anger builds on anger and it just went out of control.  The words spoken is meaningless and it is just yelling  and justifications. People have to justify that they are angry so they don't look stupid.  The person who have lost control will shift the focus to you and make you the bad guy. This is a natural protection.

But , looking further into the of anger. It can be more to it. I notice that a person's tolerance level varies according to a lot of factors.  The person's body conditions and emotions, a bad impression , a rumour , a deep rooted gossip , the condition of the mind at a particular time. If a simple question can draw out a full blown anger, the source of anger should be a serious problem hiding in the mind waiting to ignite.

In this case, it was a feeling of been cheated.  I am also very angry if  I have been cheated on a business or private deal. It is very hurtful when we trust a person and in the end, he cheats us. But, there is two sides to a coin.  The person doing business has all the right to quote his price and if it is too high, you have all the rights to reject it and it should not stain a relationship. Why is the feeling of  been taking advantage of spoilt a relationship. I have talk about it in my earlier article. If there is no foundation for a friendship and it is based on getting something from each other, such relationship would not last.  A real Friends goes to thick and thin  and there is a lot of trust, space and understanding. If a friendship can be blown to pieces within seconds, this is not friendship.

The basis of friendship is not how many years or how much sacrifice you put into the relationship. It must have a strong foundation of mutual trust and respect. Nothing should be expected out of a friendship and if it is based on expectation from each other, it would not last. If I do something  for my friend and I hope he will do something for us then it is doing business not friendship. What I want to say is that during the lunch , a fifteen years of friendship is torn up and wasted. What a pity and it looks so unreal and so much of hypocrisy.  It ends  well if we are useful to each other but  if you take excessive advantage of a situation, then you are not more useful and will be discarded.

Such kind of examples are well known among Emperors of China where loyal generals are sent to battle to be killed or executed because the general becomes more popular or become a threat to the Emperor. This is a dog eat dog world . The small fish eat the smaller fish and the bigger fish eat the small fish and the biggest fish eat the bigger fish . Finally, the shit of the biggest fish is eaten by the smallest fish. The world goes round and round and new relationship is created and old ones fade away.

Remember  relationship is as thin as a piece of paper or is only a skin deep. Don't expect too much from it as it can just change over night. In many occasions, it is only a fate to meet and go on our own way.

Like all other human beings, I am restless.

My mind is very active and on  a fixing mood.  Maybe because I drank alot of coffee in the afternoon. I was attending a seminar on some tax updates. It was quite boring as there were only minor changes to the subject this year. I was among the 500 odd participants llistening to the speakers making issues out of no issue. My ears was trying to catch what the speakers were talking about while my mind was handling my office work. Multi-tasking on such occasions. Foolish of me.

Now , my mind is still active and every thought is a fleeting moment.  It come and go and it come back again and go again. Flip flop like switches on the wall,  Went to my face book and saw sometime interesting posted by my friend , SB from Australia. The phrase starts with :  We have a pair of eyes, a pair of ears , two lips , two nostrils but we have only one heart. Why......? This is because we give the other half of the  heart away and now we have to find it., the better half.  Well, ths is  quite truth. At birth and in the process of growing up, we could have lost our heart , our passion.  We are blind by the rat race and the seeking of wealth.  In a workshop  on the day before while at lunch, one of the female participant sitting in my table asked us to define " been successful". Nobody answer her and I just told her that been successful means to be happy all the time. Not money, not frame, not possessions but the feeling of happiness. But coming to think about it , it is exactly true.  Buddha said that we should not feel happy or sad. We should keep neutral and following the middle path. When there is happiness, there is sadness. We have put a measurement to it and we are control and guide by it.  No feeling is the right feeling.

Well, when we are moody or restless, it is also a measurement.  How we feel, good or bad or quite good or quite bad ? It has move from one single level to a range and sliding down and up a ladder. What are we ? A creature of passion and emotion and there is where  we are control how we feel or thought.  Be aware of it and not to re-act to it and watch it float by.  It is a tough thing to do especially when we have an ever fixing mind.  When I write about it and I become more aware of what it mean.

If we are aware of our emotions , feelings and thoughts, we should stare at it. Just look at it , feel it and accept it. Don't fight it, relax and accommodate it.  Anyway, we are creatures of passion and emotions and fighting it will make it harder on us. There is a saying , when there is an action , there will be a strong re-action.  By quieting down your mind, you will relax and you will come down and it will just pass. The end will come anyway.

Multivitamins no fountain of youth for women - report

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Women taking multivitamins don't live longer than those who get their nutrients from food alone, a new U.S. study shows.

In fact, they appear to have slightly higher death rates, researchers found.

"There is very little evidence showing that common dietary supplements would be beneficial in prevention of major chronic diseases," said Dr. Jaakko Mursu of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, who worked on the new study.

"Unless you are deficient, there is hardly any reason to take them," he told Reuters Health.

About half of adult Americans take dietary supplements, and the industry now boasts of annual sales as high as $20 billion.

Yet research suggests that some of the largely unregulated substances -- such as vitamins A and E -- could be harmful in high doses, according to an editorial published along with the new findings in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

"The belief that antioxidant supplements are beneficial seems likely to have resulted from a collective error," Dr. Goran Bjelakovic of the University of Nis in Serbia and Dr. Christian Gluud of Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen write. "Perhaps oxidative stress is one of the keys to extension of our life span."

Mursu and his colleagues used data from nearly 39,000 older women who participated in the Iowa Women's Health Study and filled out questionnaires starting in 1986.

The survey asked about use of multivitamins, vitamins A, C, D and E as well as beta-carotene, B vitamins and minerals such as calcium, copper, magnesium, selenium and zinc.

During the study, supplements became increasingly popular: Between 1986 and 2004, the proportion of women who said they took one or more jumped from 63 percent to 85 percent.

Only calcium supplements were linked to a lower risk of death over 19 years of follow-up, with 37 percent of users dying compared to 43 percent of nonusers. That link held up even after considering that women taking supplements had a healthier lifestyle than the rest.

By contrast, women taking other supplements did not live longer. For instance, 41 percent of multivitamin users died versus 40 percent of nonusers -- and the gap became even wider when adjusting the numbers based on health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure and overweight in the two groups.

Mursu said he expects his findings will be true for men as well, adding that they jibe with earlier research hinting that dietary supplements do little good in Western countries where vitamin deficiency is not common.

One possible exception is vitamin D, which one recent study suggests may help women live a little longer.

Mursu also cautioned that his study doesn't prove supplements cause harm.

"I would rather conclude that there is no evidence for benefits," he said.

The 2010 U.S. dietary guidelines recommend getting nutrients from foods, not supplements.

However, women of reproductive age group are advised to get extra folic acid and those who are pregnant may want to take iron supplements if their doctor suggests it. The guidelines also urge people 50 and older to get extra vitamin B12 from fortified foods or supplements.

The government website http://www.choosemyplate.gov has tips on how to eat a balanced diet. Information on individual supplements can be found at http://ods.od.nih.gov.

FRUIT AND VEGETABLES BETTER?

Duffy MacKay of the Council for Responsible Nutrition, a trade association representing manufacturers and ingredient suppliers of dietary supplements, disagreed with the researchers' conclusion that doctors should only recommend supplements to people with deficiencies.

He added that in the case of iron, women on high doses may have underlying conditions that could explain their higher death rates.

While Mursu acknowledged that shortcoming, he said it is unlikely to be relevant for multivitamins, which usually aren't prescribed by a doctor.

Short of getting sick, he said it's hard to know if you are getting enough vitamins and minerals -- and screening everybody would be prohibitively expensive.

His advice?

"Include as many vegetables and as much fruit as you can. There is hardly any reason to limit those, and they contain a whole lot of vitamins and minerals."
