Immortality ....Do you wish ?

Yesterday, I saw a movie about immortality and it is not about living forever but living behind achievements and legacies after our death. Structures like Angkor Wat , the Egyptian pyramids, etc. In real life, everybody must die but some people find ways and means to live a little bit longer.  As science advance, the average life span will increase. But, eventually , everyone must die.

When we are young, death is very far away but when we reach old age, our friends and family members will start to pass on as all of us age. I remember there was a year when a number of  relatives of my mother's generation die in the same year. Six in a row. My mother have passed on for more than 14 years.

Today, my boss sent me a message and he told me that a long lost friend suddenly sent him a message informing him one of his school friends have a massive stroke and have passed on and another of his class mate is in coma. These news shock him and he could not sleep well last night. In his message, he told us that all of us are mortals. As we age, we will get sick and die. So, when there is a time to rest , we have to rest and when the time for us to exercise, we should drop everything and exercise. Don't kill our self over work. It is foolish if we work at the expense of our health. There should be a time to work, a time to play, a time to rest and a time to exercise.  This is within our arrangements.  If we blame  work as a reason to  miss an exercise, it is foolish and silly.  When can work be finished ? We have to put a full stop to it and treat  it as done for the day. We do an honest day of work.

There is a saying " work and no play makes Jack , a dull boy". I often heard people saying that they work 7 x 24. Silly fools, I think you are doing everything yourself . How can it be ? No sleep , no rest and no play. We have to be honest with our self and other people, this is plain silly and boastful. It is better another job before we kill our self . We are just mortals.

In chasing for glory, we often forget the fragility of our life. A simple twist of fate life will change or we die. Working 7 x 24 is like a walking zombie or walking dead.  Lifeless and meaningless.  Life without purpose is a waste. How long we live is not important rather how we live it.

Namaste.
