How to engage the Gen Y? My opinion

The term Gen Y has been very commonly used to classify the current generation. For those born in the sixties , there are the baby boomers, followed by the Gen X in the seventies and toos e in the eighties and nineties are called the Gen Y. I read a very long article in the Star but I would like summarised and express my comments as well. In the article, the author summarised the Gen Y's characteristics as very independent . ambitious, very inquisitive and always asked why, very ca fapable in theinternet and using FB , twitter, four s cquare and other communication platform to cheommunicate , wants work life balance, look for challenges and very daring. The generation have changed and if the baby boomers which are their parent or grand parent used their old mentality to see them and there would be a big gap. I have written an article on this matter sometime ago in my blog but after reading this article , it arouse my insight. There are pro and cons to an issue and it also pplies to the Gen Y's characters.Being independent needs good knowldege, experience and guidance. Sometimes, we look as it, it is been rebellious and stubborn. So,to balance to balance this factor, the Gen Y must listen well and have an open mind to discuss. Another character is being ambitious. Getting rich and famous cannot be done in a short time. Rome is not build in a day. They have to be patient and be prepared to start with the mortar and bricks to build a strong house. They have to know failure is the mother of all success but also success is also the mother of all failures. Be cautious. Being well connected through the social platform via the internet cna be very dangerious as there are many false lies or wrong data and bad people on the net and it can be wrongly interpreted amd misguided. Be selective and be aware of such evil schemes and bad people and use this power tool carefully. Yeah, work life balance is a very fair request but the balance varies with different poeple and the formula is 50-50 work and life is fair or 60-40 ? This is a very personal question and if this is not balance, it could lead to too lazy life or layback and weak character. If we are young, we should be spend time buidling our knowledge, our work basics and strengthen our character instead of thinking too much of life and gradually, as we grow older, we should adjust our time more to life and spend more time with our family. How to change the percentage is also a very personal question and depends on one's achievement in life. To bridge the wide gap between the different generations, we have to reac out to each other and put ourselves in their shoes and think for a moment , how to engage them by changing our views. have an opep mind and give them space and time. Do not hold on to our princples and choked them or force or views on them. They have their own life and the choice is finally theirs because it will affect their future life. For the baby boomers, we have exercise our choice before and we are responsible for our life and so be it, we should let our children or grand shldren the right to fail or be successful. As a parting word to the Gen Y , there has been a very wise saying " the advancement in technology will the make the future generations idiots". Engage on this saying and reflect on it and engage in constructive thinking. Namaste.
