Winning or losing. Is it so important ?

Nobody want to lose if you have a choice unless you are enlighten or have break through the realm of life. By winning, we get more honor , pride, wealth and a sense of achievements. This has been the yard stick of success for many past generations and for many generations to come. This is the Establishment.

Since young and when in school, we have been motivated to pass exams and with it, it comes with recognition and the chance for advancement in our studies. We sit for primary exams, secondary, high school , college and then university exams to get the necessary qualifications and recognition of our achievement in our studies.  Through this system, we have been taught that we have to study and win. Failing in exams is a taboo and a shame. Even if you pass with lower grades, it is still shameful.  We should have all the As in all our exam papers.  The As is the mark of pride of one's achievements or the parent's achievements. Which is which but both as important.  Our news media will publish names of the 9 As and 11 As in their news and congratulate all these smart achievers .  They call this, Meritocracy.

Yes, it is meritocracy and it is good for the advancement of the Nation and the Human race. Excellence breed excellence and this provide a sense of challenge to our young ones and future young ones. Pride, Honor and Achievements.  There is nothing wrong with the system.

But, something is missing. If our system only caters for academic achievements and where is the system to take care of creativity.  The left brained brain is well taken care and what about the right brained people. To have academic success, it is not difficult .  A sense of discipline, hard work and compliance will do the job but the right brained people are talented and gifted people who required a different system or atmosphere to support them. Gifted and creative people are often very emotional, complex and rebellious.  Our compliance system do not suit them and often choked them to death.  The system leave them dangling in the air and fighting for their breath.  I shared their pride and there are not so much guiding materials for such group of people.  My heart bleeds for them.

Due to the lacking in our education system to breed the right brained people, the burden is often left to the parents to chart their course of action to provide the guidance and support.  If the parents are compromising, so is the future of the gifted child. Wasted. This is a cruel world and the recognition of talent is sometime very subtle and clueless.  I believe there is talent in everyone of us and not only trained or sacrifice to pass exams.

Life is more than academic achievements and passing and learning through the process is more important than the outcome.  Failure is the mother of success and for every failure, there is a lesson to be learned. Don't not be shameful in your failures and feel back that other people do better than you. In many ways, you are better than them but these things are not in your exam papers.

Look at your self intensely and look for your strength and pursue it vigorously with focus and awareness. Never say die but try. Never compare yourself with your peers and your friends , you are unique and your competitor is yourself. If you conquer yourself, you will be a winner.

Namaste.
