Raining days and Mondays

This song was sung by Karen Carpenters and it was one of Carpenters' favourite hits. Karen died from Aneroxia, an eating disorder at her hayday in the music industry. She died at her prime and at the highest point of her career.  It was a pity or was it the creater's will ? Nevertheless, she left behind a legacy and her songs for us.  This song , Raining days and Mondays have a message and it trigger me to write about this piece because it has been raining for the past few days especially in the morning and yesterday was a monday. If raining days brings us the blue , so what about a raining Monday? It is a double B day ? You bet it was.

To most of us, working people , Monday is the start of a work week after a two days of rest day. Most of the time, the two days is not enough and to start off after a break, it usually take more effort on our side. Emotions plays havoc in our feelings and just like starting a car when it is cold. It  makes all the noise and cranking sound before the engine goes into a smooth drive. It is the same for our body. It sends out alot of signals and negative vibes.  The sleepy mood asked us to sleep a little bit longer, the tired muscles yelling for rest and our restless thoughts start to stir troubles for us. Our body refused to start off and need more rest.  This is the usual struggles on Mondays and when it is Friday, then it becomes a TGF. This is a very normal re-action.

Then, why raining days ?  My understanding is that when it rains, the sky is always  grey, dark and gloomy.  There is nothing wrong with raining days except that it is abit messy because it is wet everywhere and it is a bit uncomfortable. And alot more uncomfortable if it is raining heavy. The point of our uneasiness with raining days could be only in our mind,  We always like bright sunshine and we have been taught that bright is positive while gloomy or black is negative.  That is also one of the reason why we wear black to mourn a person's death. This understanding have been piled up in our mind over the years, so when it rain, the feeling of gloominess and blues just float up to our mind and takes over our mood and feelings. To some people , raining days also means traffic jams, more clothings, umbrella , hats and many more things to carry along.

So, much for now needs to go to work now.  Listen to Carpenters' song Raining days and Mondays and the lyrics will tell you that it always bring her down.

Namaste.
