My recent birthday - an insight

People tell me that age is just a number  and also people joked with me that my hirthday coincide with the National Day of Singapore and millions of people celebrate with me. Apart all this illusions, yes, there were many whatsapps and SMS to greet me on my birthday. A few on the FB as well.

Out of all these is my daughter, M's birthday. She sang me a song sang by her through whatspp. I was taken aback by the wordings and I almost felt tears flowing from my eyes. In the song, she apologize for not spending time with her parents, wondering out most of the time, no time to say I am sorry and say all the wrong words at times.  It is very hard to say we are sorry but she sang it with emotions and sincerity.  I was touched , very touched.  I know she is not a bad girl after all and at least , she knows what is wrong with her attitude.  Being aware is good enough.

In the message to me in her FB, she said that I am a partime driver, a partime ATM . a partime friend but a fully time father. Yes, I am very worried about her and what she is doing all the times.  I felt that she is too close her friends and some of them will make use of her. This is my main concern.

On my brither last saturday, my wife arrange a family dinner with her sisters and brothers at our private club and after that we had a drink at the pub.  There was a lot of fun and eating.  The night ended very late and I reach home only about 11.30pm. During my younger days, it was only the start fo the night but at this age, it is the starting for my sleep. It is already late for my sleep.

Driving back, I was thinking about the years that have passed by and how fast have it been moving.  How many more 10 years is remaining ?  Everything looks so bleak and colorless as we look into the past years. The longer back we tried to visualize in the past,  the more colors it has faded. Every is blur and colorless.

All of us were laughing during the dinner  but internally, there is always a vuccum and always crying out for God. The God which is always forgiving despite all the sins which is done in the past and the only way to GOD is through Christ. Yes, there was this topic being discussed during the dinner and it creates a lot of fun talking about it.

Life is a journey and we shall enjoy it fully.

Coffee joints & cafe - my love

Lately, I have been addicted to coffee.  It keeps me awake and moving.  If without coffee, I will be lifeless. What do they have in coffee that me feel loved and comfortable. At the afternoon meeting, my colleage told me a joke :

A lady was sitting on the swing with her husband drinking coffee. Suddenly, the lady said that " you have been lovely and thank you for all these good years". Her husband was delighted and asked her why she suddenly say these wonderful  words to him. The lady looked at him and told him that the words are not for him but for her coffee which have given her so much wonderful years. LOL.

I am now confused whether my wife have been taking care of me better than the coffee that I have been drinking.  The relation , the sweetness, the aroma and the wonderful taste. It keeps me awake to carry my life through thck and thin. Always available when I need it. No nagging, no complaints and heartbreaks.  Keep me warm during the raining days and let me keep my cool during the hot days but most important is to let me keep my senses.

No wonder these cafes are mushrooming in Penang and I was told that there are hundred over cafes of this nature to cater for the different preference of the crowds and provide comfort the public to gather and drink coffee.  Their nature is like the london pubs to the  British people and this cafes will soon become a local culture.

The doctors said that drinking 2 to 3 cups a day, it is good for health but if we drink more , then it becomes counter positive and could hurt us. This point I am not so sure but definitely 2 to 3 cups is okay for me especially when I need it.

My wife told me that she needs a cup a day , otherwise, she has headaches. So , this point , I am not so sure because this seems like an addiction.

Come what may, coffee have become a must for me especially in the morning or a late night sleep.  It has been very useful for me to fight the blues especially the monday blues.

Wolf in a sheep skin

The phrase " wolf in a sheep skin" reminded us of the story of " Red Riding Hood" .  This is a child story about  a wolf tried to dress up as a sheep in order to eat a young lady.  This story was one of my favorite child time story and nowadays, it has become so popular.  There are so many instances that people tried to dress up for a kill.

There was so many report of casanova who sweet talked ladies to part with their  money and there are so many scams which are dressed in excellent packaging to hookwind honest people's money. There are also politican parties who say some thing and do another thing by pretence. So many instances and packaging to fool the public.

In a small term, it is about people around us who are in false pretence and get our confidence and then backstab us and put us in bad lights.  So, many lesser children of GOD who acted out of ill will.

My daughter , M told me how his manager failed to teach and guide her in her work and she only took 3 days MC and the manager was not happy with her.  The manager must out of sync with this current generation.  The children of this generation needs strong logical explanations and soft skill to handle their needs. No such thing as " cane and carrots" to control them. They rebel against illogical explanations  and they are very knowledgeable because they are in access to the internet. They can counter check your answers or advise and they can tell you back what is a logical decision. If they don't like the supervision, they can just walk out without a job.  They are more daring and challenging. So , the older generation must change to fit in their presence with them.

Sometimes, we don't understand how other people can be hookwind by these sheepy wolves but it is amazing how these foxy wolves can influence our mind or control our thoughts by their pretentious acts and plan. Some people said that they use black magic  but I don't think so.  They have wonderful mannerism, strong convincing power and quick hand tricks to lure us into their net.

How do we identify the wolf in the sheep skin ?  Yes, we only have to look for the tail.  When the foxy wolves enjoy a success, they will reveal their tails.  So , watch out for thier tails so that we become cautious and awareness.

Let them be stupid ....

In our life , we come across many stupid people.  It is either their action or their speech is illogical or senseless. Some people put forward this stupid face or action to escape prosecution but some of them are real stupid. For those wolf in the sheep skin to gain mileage in their job, I wish them good luck and hope they know what they are doing.

For those real stupid fools, it is uselss to change them or educate them by normal people. They live in their world of their own and they need professional help to stay alive or keep out from doing more stupid things which harm themselves or other people.

These walking zombies are for real and they look real and commanding. They will attack you senselessly upon provocation and that is the reason, they have to be leave alone by the normal people. Once you know that they are crazy or stupid, we have every reason to excuse them for their stupid speeches or actions.

Often these stupid people becomes politicians and talk whatever they feel like talking and at the meantime , reflect so badly on themselves.  They only stick to their agenda whether it is logical or not , it does not matter.  So, let it be stupid and carry on their stupid ways.

One example is the MCA's decision to comment on the foreign cooks managing the hawker stalls as chef.  I think LGE is correct that Penang is famous for its food and we cannot let those foreigners come and spoil our brand.  What would it becomes ? Yes, there is freedom of rights and democarcy but if it is harmful to us , then we have to organize it well and manage the problem.

I have to relate a case when I was in Bangladesh.  My boss and I was staying in Radisson Hotel and there was a Malaysian food promotion.  Our High Commissioner was sitting in the lobby and when he saw us , he invited us to attend the food fair in the hotel.  Ow, we were delighted and as we walk into the restaurant, there was so many Malaysian food spread all over the counters and the fried indian noodles look so good and they were cooked by our Malaysian Chef. So, we rush for it and after one spoon , we split out the food.  The spices were different and the taste was totally foreign to us. It maybe good for Bangladeshis but not for us.

SO just imagine , this is happening in Penang , what will the tourist think ? Is it Penang, Malaysia or Bangladesh. For those wronged minded person and not staying in Penang, just stay out and eat yourself.  Talking is easy and making person look bad is easy, but don;t act stupid.

I am singing the blues ...

I felt lathargic and sluggish on a Monday morning and it could be because of too much restful breaks in the past one week.  A long public holiday and last weekend.  Actually, come to think about it, I have done a lot of things over the weekend.

I have been doing yoga on saturday and bought lunch for my wife in afternoon, cleaning dog shit every now and then, making juice for my wife and myself, bought dinner , enjoy the TV program and on Sunday, sent  my wife for prayer for his beloved father and mother, have coffee with her sister ,G and eat lunch at my sister's home, clean the car and also the dog shits again and went out dinner with my wife. I also practice Tai Chi for two sets before the night was out.

Acutally, there is quite a lot to do and I have a very good rest the night before despite all the dreams. I am mentally fresh but my body is arching and I felt so heavy to move from my chair.  It is a feeling of heavily cramped down.

Suddenly, I felt life is passing by so fast.  Week after week and months after months.  I became more aware of the passing time and how little we have achieve or done.  It is not for money or greed but  just wondering whether there is some meaningful things to do nor not.

I start to look at the more older man who cannot walk or see or talk logically.  Last evening , I was having a dinner and this old lady just stand and wait for me and my wife to finish our dinner and to take our places.  It was so akward to have some stranger looking over you when you are eating and this old lady cannot wait anymore and she took a seat beside me and wave to her husband to come over.  Her hasband was wearing a dark sunglass and I think he has just have a cataract operation.  He walk so slowly and took the seat beside my wife.  I could see my wife rushing to finish her food and getting out of the restaurant as soon as possible.

I told my wife that why are these people so rude and crude. At least, they should ask our permission to sit on the same table with us. We actually don't mind but don't watch over us like a hawk and then take over the seats like a terrorist.  SOBs...... a bit cheese off.

Maybe, this foul mood is coming from this unhappy encounter and it was brought over from last nite today.  I have been feeling angry in my dreams over an incident happen a long time ago. I told myself that if I have a chance , I would have taken a different action.  Now, I have to let it go, let it go....

Birds of the same feather flock together ....

I remembered reading a book about how an environment or culture can influence the thinking of a person. If we are born in a slum and grow up in a slum , we will have a slum metality. If we are born and bred in an upper class area, we will bave the same personality and culture of an upper class. The environment change change a person.

Lets say we take a person out from the slum and put them in a upper class environment, they will not be confortable in the beginning but if it is long enough, it will change the person's mentality.  In simple words, if we drop a black spot in a  can of white paint, the black spot will be change into white and vice versa.

If we look around , we will see that the black crows will flock together and eat at the dustbins or rubbish area. If you chase them, they will disperse but than will regroup after a while. All the birds and animals have the same way and so is human beings.

The culture in an organization is very important to the upbringing of a person who starts to work. If they start at a small organization, they will learn the culture of the a small organization including the behavior of the staff and peers.  After a while, they think that their culture is the best and will retain all their exposures in that environment and if he moved to a big organization , he will apply all that he learn in the big organization.  Many a times, it result in a misfit and the person will feel left out and becomes very uncomfortable and will force to leave organization.

It is very vital for us to give the proper guidance and support for that person to have a chance to change his or her " small company" attitude and provide all the training and exposure for them to see the how a big organization works and why they need to change to fit it and move on to have a bigger exposure.

In most cases, a person in the big organization will not be able to change a small company while a small company person will be unable to live in a big organization.  It is a fact and a reality.  It takes a lot to change and survive in different cultures and environment.  But , it is not impossible if there is huge efforts and investment to guide them to move in the different path.

Now is Friday again

After 5 days of resting as the Country celebrates Hari Raya and after working 2 days, it is again another weekend.  Too much resting and it makes my body weak.  I felt it when I attended my yoga class on Wednesday.

My wife was unable to do certain yoga pose as her arms was hurting and after examining by my Yoga teacher, she told her that it is due to a lay off from yoga for 6 days and this is the reason. Why our body is so fragile ? Must we always condition our body to the fittest point and not having any long or extended rest.  I felt the same as my wife and it is always a sluggish start after a restful rest .

We have to be moderate in order to avoid hurting ourself  and it is so difficult to balance our fitness. Too much exercise is counter positive for our health and we will be constantly in pain from our joints or muscles and too light exercise, will make us lethagic and sluggish . So a little bit of pain or hunger is better to keep our body in the optimum level.

It is very difficult to balance our body as our optimum fitness level is not the same from day to day.  Our mood , our resting and our life style constantly move our body's optimum level and it maybe okay one day but it is not for another day.  We have to live by the day and watch our body and mind reaction to each type of exercise. Sometimes, the weather also played a significant part in our fitness.

That is why I believe in Buddha's basic cycle of life ie birth, aged, sick and die.  Despite all our hard work and pain to maintain our fitness, it is only to delay aging and death. Finally, eveything will disintegrate and our fitness will be gone as we aged and finally, it will be over. Nevertheless, I believe it is better to live a healthy life with all the hard work and pain than rather live and die like a couch potato , resting and sleeping the time away.

This is a choice and it does not mean that we live lonver if we exercise regularly and it maybe the other way of resting and sleeping will make us live longer. Nobody knows.
