My Sunday experience at Advertist Hospital , Pg

I read one health article that recommended the need of a second opinion relating to medical diagnosis to check in the competency of Doctors. There are many cases of wrong diagnosis and wrong treatments. I think this is a very logical consideration.

So, for my sister's heart case , I try to seek an appointment with a doctor at the Adventist Hospital. I called up the Adventist and they told me that phone registration is not allowed for new comers and we have to walk in to register and the registration starts from 7am in the morning. I feel strange but maybe there are valid reasons.

Immediately , I pick up my niece and drove to Adventist and upon arriving the car park was full. Luckily, I could asked my niece to do the registration while I wait in the car. She came back with a number 2028 and we do not know how long we have to wait. I parked my car and bring my niece for breakfast at their cafeteria.

The breakfast was simple. A bowl of oats for me and a plate of noodle
For my niece. Mineral water for both. On the screen display at the cafeteria, the numbering of the patient for the various doctors were displayed on the screen. The number displayed against my appointed doctor shows 1905. I was shocked. Ow! More than 1000 patient in a day. Incredible!!

Thinking logically, I think there should be a two tier numbering. Starting with 1000 is for their regular patients while 2000 is for the new comers. From the numbers, I do not know how many patients and how long to wait. I think the numbering system stinks. Silly arrangements.!nevertheless , it is not the fault of the doctors. They should sack the Administrator .

Another point is that the doctor will stop intermittently for their rounds and the numbering will switch back to the 1000 series and then back to the 2000 series. Maybe, there are logical reasons for doing that.

By now, I have been waiting for more than three hours since 9am and I am still waiting for 12 more patients until me.

It has been a tedious morning , doing nothing but just waiting. The worst of the actions is waiting. It takes a lot of energy and tolerance.

I have dozed off many times over but for the wellness of my sister I have to bear the discomfort and the boredom. Finally, the consultation could take only last 5 to 10 minutes while the waiting is for four hours, it could be worth it ig the advise is valuable.

Stupid old man

The term " stupid old man" is not to belittle old people but in the Chinese culture , it depicts " Lau Khoo Tong" , it means a stubborn old man or a forgetful old man which makes them stupid in the eyes of the youngster.  It could be also because of the generation gap. Some people will call them stubborn old fools. he

Whatever, we call the old people, it does not matter because old people became forgetful or senile and sometimes, they have to act useful or stubborn to gain the notice and respect.

Last Sunday, I went to the ATM to cash out some money.  I stood behind an old man . I saw him slot in his ATM card and he stood there looking at the screen. It was a while before I got impatience and asked him what is he waiting for.  He told me that he is wating for his money.  OMG, what is happening?  I proceed to press the screens for him including asking him to key in his pin number and until he has to the fast cash screen.  He pressed the amount he wants and took the money and walk away after retrieving his card.  I think he might have lost a few moments of sanity.  It happens to all of us and hopefully, it rearly happen,

If we live long enough and old enough , we could have this lapse in our memory.  The brain just shut us out and we are living n the blanks for a period in time. If this lapse in our memory last a longer time, then we have to get worried but if it is only a few short lapse, it  is only a few moment of short circuit.

These experience happen to all of us even when we are young . We left our keys in the office, we forget appointments, meetings, or to eat our vitamins or medications ,etc.  Many of such events could also happen to us a few times or so.  This is normal but the frequency or the likehood of these events happening when we gets old , the frequency will increase.  That is when, people around them start to call them names " like stubborn old fool or stupid old man".

It is a path everyone have to go through and this experience is part of our life. So,live through it and take precaution of the dangers lying ahead.

I am not myself today

My mood is restless and my mind is focus on how to counter an accusation. My mind cannot absorb anything else but just to fight back for justice.  Someone have wronged me severely and I am not going to lie down taking the punches . I must fight back.

The thoughts go over and over my mind but I did not confront my eldest sister.  I just ignored her when I met her.  What is the use of fighting or faced off with her on this matter? It has happen already and we need to move forward and see how to handle the fall out.  Life is like this , when something happen , there will people who jump up and accuse us for not doing this or doing that.  These are the arm chair critics and selfish fellas.

So, what I am going to do with this twist of fate?  My 2nd sister's condition will be life long and the treatment will be tedious and expensive. How is going to take care of her as she is no longer able to drive, cook or do the heavy stuff ? Maybe, money is not the issue but a lot of things is going to change. Our comfortable routine is thrown to the dogs and out complacency and dependence life style is shattered.  We need to piece up the pieces and re-arrange it. A lot of adjustments and acceptance will be needed.

Old age is catching up with us and her  and the prolong medication is only a means and not an end.  Her health is will gradually deteroriate like everyone of us but it maybe faster. The  prolong medication will affect her vital organs and will weaken them in the long run.  This is  inevitable and we will need to accept the fact.  Even when she is good health, she will need to go through this process but maybe slower and more naturally.

Everything have to end somehow when we reach the end of the road.  How we die or die of what is uncertain but the end is the same. What is the matter ?  Let life run its own course.

The blame game

The storys not ended on my sister's stroke case.  I have informed my youngest sister , J about my 2nd sister's case.  J, stays in KL and she was reluctant to come to Penang because her husband is not around and her son and maid will be the only two person left in her house. So, I told her the decision is for her to make. I left it as it is.

Suddenly, she told me that she is coming back with my nephew and she was starting to drive down from KL. I have not attempt to call my eldest sister as she is sickly and weak.  I left it to my niece to decide but finally,it was J who called my eldest sister and to tell her about my sister's stroke case. I don't khow what happen and I did  not want to know what transired after that.

This evening, my sisters, my bIL and my nephew arrived in Penang and we met at Loh Guan Lye hospital. I did not notice my eldest sister and I started the coversation with J and I did not notice the re-action of the rest of the relatives who had came to visit my sister.

After going in to see my sister and I was quite please with the condition and progress of my sister. There have been noticable improvements. I felt relieved  and abit tired due to the lack of sleep. I drifted out of my sister's  hospital room and I found myself standing near my eldest sister.

We start to chat and suddenly , she told me that I did not take  good care of my 2nd sister and this lack of care have  caused my sister's misery.  I was quite cheesed off and I told her that I have reminded my sister upteen times not to work so har. Yet, she is very passionate and hardworking  and she wanted her business project to be successful.  I know that some people's character is to blame others and it is the easy way out.  Isn't she have the responsibility of taking care of her sister as well ?  She is such a selfish person and always playing the blame game.

On the way, I was upset and think about what I have done and the only thing wrong with me is that I have let my 2nd sister decide for herself even when she is not feeling well.  I should have stopped her from pursue her job.  Life can be easily and relax but what about our dreams or to remain relevant and useful.  After my 2nd brother's by-pass operation , he took the easy way out and not doing anything but to sleep and eat. Well, what do we want with our life ?  It is a decision we have to make with no regrets.

My sister's stroke.

This early morning at 1.30am, I received a call from my niece, N and she yelled on the phone " Ku can moved her right side of her body".  I was shocked and I panic.  Call an ambulance but on the side, the reply was" Can you make the call?" .  I was  flumbling with my I-phone and googling for " Lam Wah Ee hospital.  I regretted not to keep the phone numbers of hospitals in my phone directory.

Hello, Lam Wah Ee?  I asked and the reply was " what happen? " . I narrated about my sister's sudden condition and person on the other line answered back "we don't have a stroke Doctor and can you try Loh Guan Lye hospital?  I flumbled again and lock in goI gle and type in Loh Guan Lye.

Hello, this is Loh Guan Lye , What is your problem? The patient's name , age , sex , contact number and a long list of the particulars. I stopped her and requested her to sent a ambulance but she told me that there is a lot of details to be filled up. I keep pastering her to sent an ambulance as soon as possible and she told me that she had despatched but keep asking for the answer to the rest of the questions. She keep me occupied and prevented me from leaving my house for my sister's house.  I was rather upset at this details which could be filled up when we reach the hospital. What kind of SOP is that ?  Time is an essence for a stroke patient.

When I reach my sister's house, I was again shocked to see her sitting on her bed without any expressions. I called for her name but there was no response. I tap on her face and call her name. Yet, there was no re-action.  I think she must also be in shock and try to speak out or response but she just got frozen. After 10 minutes, the ambulance arrived and she was lifted from her bed and got on to the ambulance.  I choose to follow her and I regretted very much.  It is not that I am upset but have regrets because of the rough handling of the van by the driver.  He was speeding like an F1 driver and I understand that she is struggling against time.  But , what if the van over turn or get into an accident?  It will be much worse for the patient and including me.

I got her admitted to the hospital and about 20 minutes later , the stroke doctor and check on my sister. He told me that it was a confirmed stroke case and she was admitted n the ICU  after doing the MRI and the result confirmed that it was a stroke. It was as a result of her heart's illment  which had induced a stroke.

At this time  I wrote this article, she was released from ICU and is now in a stabilized situation.  I hope everything turns out right and she can recovered from this sickness and keep a healthy lifestyle by living a fee and carefree life.  Anyway, life is only a journey and we should enjoy it while it last.

Golden Triangle Restaurant , Autocity Prai

This afternoon , I had lunch with a few guest from Bangladesh.  The name of the restaurant is Golden Triangle and it carries the same name as the drug  infested area between China, Burma and Thailand.

The food have a Cambodian, Thai and Burmese  flavor  but it is basically Thai style of cooking.   We ordered  otak2 , soft shell crap,  steam fish, kai lan vegetable,  mango mixed and chicken.  I have been to this restaurant a few times but recently,  I was not there for a long period.  The food have been excellent but it is abit pricey.

Going back into history why the name of the drug infested area is called the " golden triangle".  It was highlighted by some journalist that the area is full of poppy plant which is the basic ingredient for opium and other drugs.  The area is controlled by a warlord who have his own private armies to control the growth and the supply of opium to the global market.

There are also stories of  connection of this warlords with the high ranking generals in Burmah, Thailand and Chiina.  In the drug business, all the arrangements are very dark and suspicious.

Nevertheless, the restaurant ahve no dealings or connection with the drug infested zone but both are well know in their own " consumables".

"The salted fish comes alive"

This is a cantonese idoem  which means " nothing is impossible" or  " impossible is nothing " if a salted fish can come alive. Is this possible or could such things happen ?  It is absurb and impossible , right? But, it really happen in shares or financial transactions.

There are lot of shares in the equity market which have fallen well below par due to the wrong doings of the management  or the turn of events which is below controls.  However, most of the time, the management team are well off while the company is let to rot.

If we  check around the listed shares, there are shares with 5 cents or 10 cents per share when their par value is one Ringgit or  Ringgit fifty cents. Some of these shares are under PN10 which means the company have declared bankrupt.  However, if the company catch a second wind or get some lucrative contracts, the management of these companies would then start to move the shares and push it back up to its par value or over it. Most of the time, this is speculative in nature.

So, before the happy turn of events, these shares are like salted fish and kept far away from our mind or sight.  We have written it off and let it be a misfortune.  When the " spring wind" come blowing, the shares become alive and start growing again.

There are people whose career have been frozen due to their own doing or due to the wrong chemistry with their bosses but if the bosses are change, sometimes, these people became important again to the new management. So, the fortune of people will change. In the Chinese belief, each person's fortune will change in a period of 10 years.  Hence, don't worry if you are in the bad books of the bosses, there is always an opening like the saying goes " every dark cloud have a silver lining".  Believe in yourself and be patient.

Hence, there is nothing impossible and with the right patience and the mental strength, we can achieve the impossible.  But , be practicable, it does not happen all the times but some of the times. Wish yourself, good luck.
