A purpose driven life - Steve Jobs & Ipad 2

Steve Jobs , former CEO of Apple Computers, one of the richest man on earth besides Bill Gates.  This man is really admirable. He was sick when he review I-phone4 and it brings big profits to Apple and he recovered to manage Apple Inc and he was medical leave and he came back to launch Ipad 1 and then, he was again on medical leave leaving the Company to his partners and then he came back on to launch Ipad2 , a slimer and faster Ipad. He is fighting a serious illness but his venturing spirit refused to die. He keeps improving the ipad and iphone and  bring in a better version, each time he appear in Public.

He is so attached to his products and focus all his strength and might in Apple Inc. This is his life purpose and have gained him frame. But, people will forget him if he retire or when he is dead. This is besides the point, we have to admire his guts  and strength in the pursuance of his dream and vision.

There is an analogy. If a person do not have anything to do, two hours is a very long time but to a busy person, it is just like watching a movie, time just flew.  The same thing happen to us if we pursue our hobbies, time passes so fast. If we have a purpose, we are not conscious of time.

Once, I was told by my BIL, Jim that in Christianity , we must have God in our mind all the time.  Hence, Christians cannot practice Yoga as the  practice calls for an empty mind. So, the Christians have one single focus in God and this will be a powerful force which drive a sole purpose driven belief.  The same happens to Buddhist who is committed to cleanse their body and mind  and works for charity, such people have a powerful purpose and will be easily contented which came from  a purpose driven life.

Anyway, nowadays , they don't make man like Steve Jobs. He is a man of steel , he works amidst pain, sickness and hunger. Such macho man is lacking in this young generations. Youngsters now, take sick leaves when they catch a cold or a cough. They don't go out in the rain and hide in their rooms most of the time playing with their electronic toys or equipments.  The people have change their mindset and people like Steve Jobs have influenced the change in people's life styles and from hard to soft.  For example, the Ipad is processing fast, it is lighter, thinner and more functional. It pampers the young and make them soft in the body but strong in the mind. The whole evolution is happening.

Let it be and let it go

When I was young, I listen to the radio  and there was this famous band of four who called themselves, " The Beatles" singing the song " let it be".  This was in the early 70's . The song was full of wisdom and part of the lyrics goes like this " when I find myself in times of trouble, mother may comes to me, speaking words of wisdom ...let it be .. let it be.  The song became one of the biggest hit in music history. Apart from its wonderful music, it carries with it a strong message.  These guys have telling of us to let it be.... and let it go, 30 years ago.

There are so many things that is beyond of our control and understanding. Fate is a mysterious creature . Sometimes, our fate can be controlled or altered  but most of the time , it is like a run away train. Any change in our fate maybe our fate as well. The weak blames fate, the not -so- strong accept fate and the strong ones try to change fate. But, the wise ones just watch fate and not re-acting to it. Letting fate unwind , reveal itself and letting it go.

Fate can be kind, cruel and fair. It does correspond to our actions and luck.  Our actions influence fate and our luck nurtures it. If we are hardworking, normally , we can become rich and successful. Even we worked tirelessly but without  luck, we can be poor and miserable. As I have said earlier, it behaves in a mysterious way.

When strangers met , they become good friends and they got married but people work together or have been friends, remained friends. Sometimes, good friends got married and strangers become friends. Some  people have been long lost friends and  sometimes, they meet up after several years  and developed in a life long partnership. Strange combinations and variable options. How is "who connected who", nobody knows the reason.  When it happens, just accept it and let it be.

Accepting fate, letting it unfold  and letting it be could make our life more contented, interesting and happier.

Judging others -see your own reflection

An elephant asked a camel, "Why are your breasts on your back?'

'Well,' said the camel, 'I think that's quite an inappropriate question from someone whose dick is on his face.'

Folks, before we judge others - think again.

The realm of life: birth, age, sickness & death

Today, I have seen a fearless man becoming scare when face with a possible death. The person, J  have been healthy six months ago and now, became weak and lifeless after fighting with a sickness for the past few months. He has became withdrawn, quiet and nervous when he face the outcome of his medical check.  He was hesitant in his response and lost in his thoughts.  I have seen this face  before when my MIL, Maggie passed away six years ago.

Death is a frightening journey because we do not know what is on the other side. The uncertainty is scary. Is it going to be pitch dark or in bright sunshine ? What is heaven or hell like ? Am I going to be alone or will it be painful ? But, I think it is not all of these reasons. I think dying is easy but no accepting it  and letting go all our achievements, wealth , good life and love ones  are the real reasons.  If we can let go our processions, we will go easier and feel better.  There are so many things that we worry  will not follow our wishes when we are gone. We have to understand nothing matters after we die. The show must go on. It may not be according to our scripts but  it will definitely go on.

There are religious beliefs that  make our going away easier. In Christianity, our Lord will receive us in heaven , in Buddhism,  there is a theory of re-birth and in a big bang theory, our energy will go back to the life force. But, in reality, does it really matter, where we are going or where we are after our death.  Nothing really matters after we are gone.

Recently, there is a programme initiated by Bill Gates that is to encourage the wealthy people  to donate all or part of their wealth to Charity. If you have billions, does it matter if you donate half of it to Charity ? The remaining wealth is enough for you or your offspring to last a few generations without lifting their fingers. Do you have contact with your children or do your children concern about you after death ? People have short memory and  the memory of you will be gone in one generation unless you have some legacy which is remembered by the public or is of historical value. Even then, nobody will be bothered to read about your achievements. Today, I read a full obituary of a famous person in the Star obituary column.  I do not even know this person and after reading a few lines, I do not have a memory or interest of knowing what her achievements are.  This is reality. When you are gone, you will be erased.

Yes, we have only the present and nothing more. If you are able to understand and accept  this concept well, you will be happy, contented and live a more meaningful life. It is not a matter of how long we live but how well we have lived our life.  It is also not about how many breath we have in our life but how many times  our breath have been taken away.  Enjoy your happy moments and stop thinking too  much.  Sometimes, it is a bridge too far.

Namaste... bless you

When we are old, we are lonely.

Why has it to be this way? Have we change or we choose to be this way? Are we scare of bothering our children ? Or we pretend that we are happy to be alone or we have a big heart to let our children to earn their living by themselves and not to bother them.  This is plain absurd or silly. Who wants to be lonely if we can have happy people with us.  Who wants to be alone if they are good listeners? Why do we live like hypocrites and not telling our love ones that we need to see them more often ? Is it that there is too much ego that we  do not  need our love ones to be with us? Have we been nasty during our younger days that our love ones hate to be with us or afraid to talk to us.  These are the many reasons which caused old people to be alone.  So, the question, why it has to be this way.

Happiness is all it matters. If we are happy to be alone , then let it be but if it is for some other reasons, we have to dump it to clear our path. It is generally true that old people need people to listen to them and to give them attention.  Any other ways would be strange and unnatural. Old people have many stories to tell and experience to share and they want people to be around them especially good listeners. Old people needs attention and it has been recognised  that they became childish when they age and play pranks to get attention. I think they are trying to be useful and to be recognised.  They have heroic achievements and seek  recognition and acceptance before they passes on.

In front of their love ones, they act strong and have a big heart. They want to paint the picture that they are happy and they can take care of themselves while they suffer in silence. The days of been alone  and  useless is painful and boring. The old people have to brake away from this mind set and not to live in pretence while the young ones do not use this reason to stay away from them.

From my understanding , old people must continue their useful life and be active. We don't need to be old when we are old. Age is just a number. The choice is ours. We can keep our body and mind as young as possible and we are what we think. Old people need not mix only with old people but participate in the activities of the young generations. We do not need to change our routine and diet but rather we monitor our health consistently and carefully.

We do not need  to die  as a weak  and disable person but to remain active until our last day. Our thoughts make our life and our belief makes our day. If we have physical pain, we do not need to have a sick mind.  They are separate matters. Hence, when we are old, we can be young at heart.  The main point is to do whatever that make us happy and feel good.

"When the sun is setting, we start to chase for the daylight. Why don't we live well from the start of the morning light.".

Ninety-eight and no enemies..

Ninety-eight and no enemies - a human interest story. All golfers should live so long as to be this kind of old man!
Toward the end of the Sunday service, the Minister asked,"How many of you have forgiven your enemies?"Eighty percent held up their hands. The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one man, an avid golfer named Walter Barnes, who attended church only when the weather was bad. "Mr. Barnes, it's obviously not a good morning for golf. It's good to see you here today.
Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?""I don't have any," he replied gruffly."Mr. Barnes, that is very unusual. How old are you?""Ninety-eight," he replied.

The congregation stood up and clapped their hands."Oh, Mr. Barnes, would you please come down in front and tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years and not have an enemy in the world?"The old golfer tottered down the aisle, stopped in front of the pulpit, turned around, faced the congregation, and said simply,

"I outlived all the sons-of-bitches!"

Lunch at a Taiwanese Tea Restaurant.

I had a lunch today with a friend after a meeting at Prai Auto-City.  I recommended Swanson but my friend prefer something light and non-cheese. I told him that Swanson is famous for their ice cream and cakes. Since, my friend insisted I follow and both of us is the first time in this restaurant.

It was not so pack but gradually, more and more people was coming in for lunch. I ordered a beef noodle and some sweet beans while my friend have some pork rice and soup.  Nothing fantastic really but we notice that the food is served pretty fast. I look over the counter and I saw this big man managing the waiters ad waitress. He was instructing them how to serve and pushing the staff to work faster and more systematically.  All the staff are young and I think they are part timers. The people taking lunch there just continue to have their lunch despite the eventful scene.

For the shop to survive in the cosy and pricey area , there must be some strong factor to attract diners and lunch-goers The shop looks simple, the food is so-so and the price is not cheap, the staff is inexperience and the restaurant manager is a pushy guy. Where is the strong point ? The fast serving of the food.  I do not know what is the response in the evening but for lunch, because of the short lunch hour, there is a need to have a fast food serving system for the lunch-goers to have enough time to eat. This is the winning factor.  At the end of my lunch while walking out, three of my Japanese colleagues walk in. Yes, the Japanese likes short and fast lunches. They are accustom to this habit. People in Tokyo stand and eat and everything is over in 15 minutes. So, a so-so food,  slightly pricey menu , a simple set can also be successful when your food serving is  fast to your customers.

There is always a reason for success. Like the qualities in you, there are strong points and weak points and if you push the right buttons, your strong points will make you shine and successful.  Look at yourself in the mirror and you will see the goodness in you.
