The right exercise for a healthy life

Yeah , the title of this subject looks like some healthy alert or message but I want to share this experience with all of you.  My wife just came back from her Bhutan trip with a strain back which troubles her for more than a week.

My wife have been doing yoga and going to the gym with me and she exercise at a speed of 6 and with the highest slope level in a track mill to prepare for her Bhutan trip. According to her , the Country was beautiful and is eco-friendly where all the fishes and meat are imported and there was no killing allowed in this Bhutanese kingdom which practice Buddhism.  No nails were use in the building of the temples which were jointed by wooden hinges.

One of the requirement was a lot of walking and hiking and the hike up tiger hill took her almost 6 hours of tracking and steps.  She told me that the tour was hectic for her and she has to use a walking stick to help her and she did it at her own pace. So what was the trouble ?

She filled pain on her back after 3 days of arriving back to Penang and I have been help to message her back with lotions to reduce her pain but it keeps getting worse and she insisted to see a doctor, fearing that she has hurt herself or her spine.  So, I took her to see a doctor and got an X-ray to check on her back.

The result was an over strained muscle on her back due to the use of a walking stick or excessive hiking.  No medication was needed and an hour of physio at the hospital.  The instruction was a complete rest for her to let her back recover. No exercise as a cure .

It is important to note that excessive exercise is not good for the body and we have to take note of the condition of our body.  The condition varies from day to day and we have to pace ourselves to that condition.  We have to take ample rest to let our body recover and it is illogical to use exercise to cure our painful body .  It is to give time for the muscles to recover from the strain or injury.

The same thing happens to me when my shoulder was injured due to a rough massage by a Chinese meseur who believes that a rough massage could cure  harden muscles.  A complete rest was helpful for me to recover speedily.

Just remember , we listen to our body and follow its message to relax and cure .

Namaste.
