Growing old can change a person strangely. The person can become more attention focus and scare or fear to be forgotten. as the young ones drift away and become independent. To get the attention, they start to interfere in the things which the young ones do or start to complain this and that and want to be inaction.
I noticed recently in a chat group how an aged relative interfere in the chatting of the younger generation. These young people sleep late and start to chat among themselves but one old person in the chat group stop them from chatting after 10.30pm because he wants to sleep. The logical thing is to switch off his phone and go to sleep but instead he stopped the chat group. This is one illogical action and I am surprise of such silly suggestions. Why do the old people become so unreasonable?
The reason is fear of being isolated and die in silence. But, he did not know that the needs of the youngsters, They are at their prime age and they want to maximize the use of their time by stretching the night. So, they have a need .
These conflicting need makes the old people want to nag more while the youngster want their freedom more. Such conflict is not healthy and start to widen the generation gap. The gap gets wider as the aged group wants attention and control.
It is a difficult to narrow the gap and it can only gets wider as the interest of two groups clashed. It is difficult to tell the old folks to keep quiet and live their life as much as possible on their own and leave the youngsters to enjoy their time with each other. The aged group will tell me to mind my own business but it is actually interfering with the business of others.
So, the best thing to do is to let it be and let the situation resolved by itself with the youngsters starting their own chat group and leaving all the aged ones live in silence while grumbling on their own. It is a sad affair of a generation gap.
Namaste
