Which is the truth ?

Women Friends chatting in office.

Woman 1: I had a fine evening, how was yours?
Woman 2: it was a disaster. My husband came home, ate his dinner in three minutes and fell asleep in two minutes. How was yours?
Woman 1: Oh it was amazing! My husband came home and took me out to a romantic dinner. After dinner we walked for an hour. When we came home he lit the candles around the house and afterwards talked for an hour. It was like a fairytale!

At the same time, their husbands are talking at work.

Husband 1: How was your evening?
Husband 2: Great. I came home, dinner was on the table, I ate and fell asleep. It was great! What about you?
Husband 1: It was horrible. I came home, there's no dinner because they cut the electricity because I hadn't paid the bill; so I had to take my wife out to dinner which was so expensive that I didn't have money left for a cab. We had to walk home which took an hour; and when we got home remember there was no electricity so I had to light candles all over the house! After all, I was so aggravated that I couldn't fall asleep and my wife was jabbering away for another hour!

A feeling of clarity.

Just finish my yoga class at the Botanical garden. Despite the aching bones, a cool light breeze was blowing and there was a sense of calmness, tranquility and clearness. I was fully aware of the moving tree leaves and the passing of time. There was so much of greenery and  fresh chi. It was a wonderful experience.

When I reach the garden, there was so many activities going on  in the garden. I could
see people practicing qigong, tai chi, jogging , walking and dancing. All at the same time like on a big stage. So many people doing so many things at the same time and living their own lives.I saw an aged old tree with its branches pointing strongly into the sky. That tree have watched a few generations of people passing before it and having hundreds or thousands of people staring at it over the years.  There will be many more thousands to come and visit this tree. The show must go on.

There are so many such beautiful things in this world. Many simple things or occasions like that to bring us joy. Such fleeting moments of enlightenment when our awareness  is at the peak to provide us the break through to have a moment of clarity. Such moments of clarity can be achieved through deep meditation or it can just happen when your mental and body conditions unite and harmonize at a certain moment.  You  can feel totally lighted up and become fearless as if you have a total understanding of the wisdom  and control of your life.

I will continue to seek such moments of enlightenment and will try to prolong it. I have been telling my friends that many years ago, I witnessed a walking mantra by a young European lady in a monastey in Penang. She walk 10 feet in 30 minutes. It is not an easy feat and you can laugh because it slower than a tortise speed. The tortise could beat the lady in a race.

But, the truth and the real purpose is to do a walking mantra at that speed or a slower pace  is an exercise of total control of  the body and mind. It is a superb achievement when everything is done in slow motion and been fully aware of the happening in our body with each motion.  It is like knowing the Tao and living in it. The body and mind in harmony with the heaven and earth. A prolong moment of enlightenment.

I am thankful for the grace to see this meditation in motion and the realization of the truth.

Namaste.

The long and winding road.

The road is long. To which there is no return. Leading no where, who knows where. This is part of the lyric from the song 'He isn't heavy. He is my brother'.

It is very true that the road of life is a long and winding road. The word 'long' in this song does not mean that a 100 years life span is long but it is long because of its meaningless purpose. If you have a purpose driven life, you will not feel long because you enjoy your days and nights. You cherish every moment and life became short.

The word 'winding' means uncertainty. You cannot see the next turn. It could be another straight road ,a uphill road or a down hill road or a cliff which could spell an end to your life. It is supposed to be a mistery to give life a challenge.

When we look at an elderly man, we can see the mirror of our self but most of the time we focus on the young and beautiful. We refuse to see the 'future' us but choose to live in unrealistic  world of forever young. We fake to live a better day amd in a make belief world.

We have to wake up by pinching our self and return to reality. What we do not see does not mean it do not exit and what we see may not be real or the truth. When we go hiking, usually we follow a path. An experienced hiker will tell you that the path looks different at different times of the day and under different seasons. The color of the leaves will change and it is a whole new vision or picture .  If we step a little left or a little right, the path again will change drastically. It is a good example of what life is. Changing at every seconds and minutes. Some time, We can see some light but most of the time, it is pit black.

This is life , a long and winding road.

Namaste.
E path looks different time of the day.

Take care, my friend.

Just woke up. The same thought is going through my head. Could feel a deep sense of restlessness. Could feel the sadness of my friend whose father passed away a few days ago. I remember her telling me many years ago her father was a kungfu instructor and if I misbehave, she will tell her father and I will receive a kungfu kick in the end. Yesterday, I was told by my friend that my lady friend's father became Penang's chief shaolin kungfu instructor before he passed away.

For me, learning kungfu is for good health and longevity. Kungfu experts ate strong and healthy people and should die at a ripe old age. This is always the myth. This kind of news shock my senses and belief.

Last week, I was talking to my KL SIL about health and she told me that she intends to learn qigong for health. She reminded me that there was an article on this subject and the art of qigong prolongs health and longevity. This belief could be true and I have read an article that if we keep active and always on the move, it will keep us healthy. But, in yoga, our live span is make up of maximum number of breath. If the number of breath is five million times and if we used it up faster by running or other hectic activities, the faster we will meet our Maker. So, qigong,Taichi and yoga is recommended to preserve our health and prolong our life.

There some many different theory and each art or activity have its' own theory and logic and I believe not one thing suits all and it depends a lot on our own body conditions, our diet and outlook in life. When we are young and strong, we work ad if we can never die and can live forever but when we are in our twilight years,we prefer to slow and watch the world go by or watch the slow breath moving in and out of our body when we practice gigong or meditation.

Nevertheless, my friends, who is in whatever age groups, please don't take things for granted that there is a tomorrow waiting for you. Everything is uncertain and inpredictable. Not even you are a kungfu expert or a yoga expert. If it is time for you to go, you have to go. Stay in the present and enjoy a blissful life. Don't wait, go and do the things you want to do because tomorrow may not come.

Namaste.

Parental Love - wise words ( extracts)

Beautiful letter written by a father to his son. This applies to daughters too.
 My Son/Daughter,

I am writing this to you because of 3 reasons :

a)Life, fortune and mishaps are unpredictable, nobody knows how long he lives. Some words are better said early.
b)I am your father, and if I don't tell you these, no one else will.
c) What is written is my own personal bitter experiences that perhaps could save you a lot of unnecessary heartaches.

Remember the following as you go through life :
1 Do not bear grudge towards those who are not good to you. No one has the responsibility of treating you well, except your mother and I. To those who are good to you, you have to treasure it and be thankful, and ALSO you have to be cautious, because, everyone has a motive for every move. When a person is good to you, it does not mean he really likes you. You have to be careful, don't hastily regard him as a real friend.

2 No one is indispensable, nothing in the world that you must possess. Once you understand this idea, it would be easier for you to go through life when people around you don't want you anymore, or when you lose what/who you love most.

3 Life is short. When you waste your life today, tomorrow you would find that life is leaving you. The earlier you treasure your life, the better you enjoy life.

4. Love is but a transient feeling, and this feeling would fade with time and with one's mood. If your so called loved one leaves you, be patient, time will wash away your aches and sadness. Don't over exaggerate the beauty and sweetness of love, and don't over exaggerate the sadness of falling out of love.

5. A lot of successful people did not receive a good education, that does not mean that you can be successful by not studying hard! Whatever knowledge you gain is your weapon in life. One can go from rags to riches, but one has to start from some rags!

6. I do not expect you to financially support me when I am old, either would I financially support your whole life. My responsibility as a supporter ends when you are grown up. After that, you decide whether you want to travel in a public transport or in your limousine, whether rich or poor.

7.  You honour your words, but don't expect others to be so. You can be good to people, but don't expect people to be good to you. If you don't understand this, you would end up with unnecessary troubles.

8. I have bought lotteries for umpteen years, but I never strike any prize. That shows if you want to be rich, you have to work hard! There is no free lunch!

9. No matter how much time I have with you, let's treasure the time we have together. We do not know if we would meet again in our next life.

Thank you.

Tears in Heaven.

This song is written by Eric Capton in rememberance of his dead son. The lyric asked what will happen if later in death they met in heaven. How could they recognize each other or call each other and would their relationship be the same. This is a sad calling from Eric Capton for his son.

How cam things be the same after death? We will become energy source without a name and identity. Everything is impermanent and yet we cam be upset and angry in this life. We cling on to our money and wanting to make more and more without trying to live a good life. We are always in a rush and ever ready for the next action. Failng to slow down or stop and see.

We always wait for the appropriate time to do our personal things and ended up doing the job for our employer or other people while neglecting our personal matters. What others see in us is more important than we appreciating or paying attention to our own self. This thinking is extremely wrong. We are more important than everything else. Our time is limited and if we don't give ourself  the priority and in a blink of an eye , time flies and we will be rushing to finish all the pending business or do the things we want to do when the end of our life journey approaches or maybe, it is too late already.

There is a Chinese idiom which says ' one inch of time worth one inch of gold but one inch of gold cannot buy one inch of time' If we are dying, all the riches in the world will not  keep us alive. So, to those crazy workaholics, please give more times to yourself. You are only in transit.

I always tell my friends that we often give 80% of our time to our job and 20% of our time for our self and we make our employers happy and rich. If we reverse the formula , we will not only be  rich, we will also have a blissful and fulfilled life.

Don't wait for things to happen,go for it and make things happen for yourself. Otherwise, it is not only tears in heaven but suffering on earth.  Enjoy while you can and dance all night if you must. This is a gentle wake up call to start living.

Namaste.

Torn between two loves

Yes. It is like a song title : torn between two lovers feeling like a fool....yes, this is the situation faced by my buddy, Jimmy. Torn between a love for the father and his wife. It is no easy feat. Who is closer? The father who had take care of him for more than 30 years or a wife of 10 years who have bore him a child. He has responsibilty to both sides and it is delicate.

Some people see it very clear on the surface and will jump to the conclusion that his allegiance is to the father. Another point would be that where would be if not for your father. Wife is like our clothings which can be changed anytime. But, come to think about it deeply, the formula is more complicated. There is a strong bond and feeling between a husband and wife in addition to responsibility. The equation is more complex because a child is born.

When you have to choose between two loves amd is very difficult to be understood by an outsider looking in. There are many things which have happen and so much happiness and hurt have flow under the bridge which those involved can feel and understand. The character of the people involved also play a big part in the choice of selecting which love. There is a saying when you are not in it, you don't see it.

The only way my buddy can do is to balance the delicate situation. Again, it is no easy task. Lots of hard work and leg work and emotions will swing the feelings and there will be incidents of heart break and sadness. There is no perfect solutions in this case but a good balancing act.

For those people on the outsde looking in, don't pass judgement too fast. It is easy say than done. Let my buddy do his job. Outsiderzs mustaintain a neutral stand and stick to the compasssion wisdom that if we cannot help, don't hurt him and keep our gap shut. When the wind Come, it come for a reason.

Namaste.
