I was caught in a massive traffic jam yesterday on my way to work at the Penang Bridge . It was a 7 km queue and bumper to bumper drive. It took me about one and a half hours to reach my office. I was really pumped up.
During the jam, I was getting every restless as my patience wear outhin. Like I have mentioned before our mind became every focus on the cars infront and any silly acts by any of the cars which block our patch draws resentment and verbal outburst from us. The more focus our attention on the traffic jam and the slow pace of clearance upset us more and more.
In such a case, we have to draw our attention away from the traffic jam. Giving it more attention will give the thought or the sight more power and it will control our attention and play tricks on our mind.
Similarly, when we woke up early in the moring , like now, numerous thoughts will try to take over our mind and each thought want to gain our attention and have the priority of our mind and the control of our thoughts. When we wake up early and wait for the daylight, it is just like waiting in a traffic jam. The point is only waiting. Waiting for the right time to move on to our daily chorus.
How do we past the time ? Just dealing with the changing thoughts makes us tired and it could destroy our day or give us a bad start.
What we need to do is to do something ie read the news, do some yoga exercise, meditate on a single thought or do some early morning exercise instead of lying in our bed fighting the thoughts. The mind will be jumping around like a monkey and we will need to tame each one in turn and such job will occupy your mind at the time. It is not sleeping anymore but working hard and struggling to control our peaceful thoughts.,
So, these two situation is the same. Control the situation and don't give focus or str ength to the problem facing us. We dilute the strength of our focus or our thoughts and keep ourself occupied with something meaningful and enjoying. The choice is ours and our strength is our will. Don't be absolved by the situation and drift along wit hit.
It is easy to say but it is a huge struggle. Believe me, in the end , we will happier.,
Namaste.
