Don't worry , be happy (ext)

Don’t worry, be happy, says veteran actress Lai

GEORGE TOWN: As Aunty Meng in the popular old series Empat Sekawan, actress Lai Meng had thousands around the country in stitches with her antics.

And happiness and laughter, says the still-healthy 83-year-old, is the secret to a good life.

Cheerful lady: Lai answering questions during the launch of her book in Sunshine Square, Bayan Baru yesterday.
“You can live with a kind heart or with hatred. I chose to have a kind heart.

“People should not keep their problems in their heart. They should face challenges bravely and things will be fine,” she said when launching her book Lai Meng: A Biography at Sunshine Square in Bayan Baru here yesterday.

Lai Meng, who rose to fame in the series which was aired on television from 1966 to 1988, said the secret to her health was “being happy”.

“You won’t feel old if you’re happy,” she enthused.

The 188-page biography in Chinese tells of her life as an actress, her early days and her ups and downs in life.

The book was first launched in Kuala Lumpur in January and Penang was the second launch.

Ten per cent of the proceeds from the sale of the book, priced at RM33, would be given to Hospis Malaysia.

The Johor-born actress said she was thankful to all those who helped in the publication of the book.

Lai, who real name is Lai Kwai Yoon, began her showbiz career at the age of 13 when she took to the stage to sing and act.

Lai also acted as a mother suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease in Singaporean director Jack Neo’s Money No Enough II in 2008.

She has received many awards including at ntv7’s inaugural Golden Awards last year and also a CHT Lifetime Achievement Award 2010 that honours outstanding Malaysians for their achievements and contributions to society.

Trying times on the economic front for M'sia

World Bank reports are authoritative and are therefore taken seriously by international observers, especially foreign investors.

Malaysia's own economic estimates and assessments will be compared to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund estimates for accuracy and integrity. Our estimates will lose credibility if they are quite different from international analysis.

The World Bank has estimated Malaysia's growth at 5.3% for 2011, and 5.5% for next year. These projections are lower than our internal estimates. Our domestic outlook for inflation could also be underestimated as the World Bank stresses the build-up taking place in inflationary pressure that could dampen private consumption and economic growth as well.

Hence the message is clear. We are going through trying times and economic strains, particularly with the continuing global economic uncertainties.

What is more worrisome is the World Bank's highlighting of the adverse effects of the brain drain on our economy. This is having a significantly more serious negative impact on our economy than we realised, and is undermining our struggle to get out of our middle-income trap.

Interestingly too about 57% of our diaspora have been attracted to Singapore. We know why, but we are doing so little about it. The brain drain is not exclusively due to higher salaries, but the sad lack in practicing “inclusiveness” amongst all Malaysians.

One major point raised by the World Bank Report 2011 is the lack of political will to push the pace of reforms in the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and the Government Transformation Programmes (GTP). In regard to the New Economic Model (NEM), the World Bank mentions the “limited headway on this front”.

Poverty worst in Sabah

The findings that poverty has increased and shows an imbalance within racial groups gives much concern and underlines the need for much more urgent action to be taken to combat the malaise.

Sabah has a whopping 42.9% share of national poverty, Sarawak has 12%, while even Kedah and Perak have dismal shares of 9.8% and 8.4% respectfully. This is unsustainable without some dire interventions.

All these World Bank findings do not encourage confidence in the socio-economic and even political prospects in the near term for Malaysia.

It is imperative therefore that the well-thought out ETP and GTP should be revised to give much higher priority to overcome the fundamental weaknesses in our economy and society, that the World Bank has honestly but politely highlighted.

We have to answer its “call for action” with a greater sense of urgency or continue to face greater risks of more economic and social decline.

One major source of encouragement however is that all Malaysians, except the powerful vested interests and the extremists, will rally around the government for more rapid transformation for the benefit of all Malaysians.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

This is the boxing philosophy of Mohammed Ali, the world greatest  boxer who is now suffering from Parkinson disease. When he was at his greatest moment, he is invincible and Almighty. God have make such a great fighter.  He would dance like a bee and when it hits out, it stings like a bee, a pin point pain.  He float around his opponents and is always away from their hits and hardest punches.  A good dancer in deed and when he is near his opponent he unleashed his powerful punches.

I would like to pay tribute to this great fighter and his greatest moments is also during my prime years. Now, he is suffering from Parkinson disease  and delegate his time to charity and use his greatness to inspire the young people. He has grace many great events including the Olympics.

If we think deeply on his philosophy , there is a deep meaning to the phase " Float like a butterfly". In life, we have to learn to protect ourselves.  We must try to emulate the behaviour of the butterfly and float with the wind at a safe distance from the potential dangers. If we fly against the wind, we will need to use more energy  and ruffle our feathers.  On the high way, you will not go against the traffic. It will be suicidal if we go against the traffic. When you go to the river and look into the river, you will spot some insects who spend its effort to swim against the direction of the water, just to keep itself flowing down the river. If you watch it long enough, you will notice that the insects is spending a great effort just to swim against the water to keep its position. If the insect relax a bit, it will lose its position and will possibly float down the river. The message to us is that to preserve our energy and follow the direction of the flow and at the same time, avoid the danger in our path by swaying in the air .

The second phase is sting like a bee. Certain bee stings are fatal if it is sting at the right spot. When the butterfly float near to its opponent, it unleashed a fatal sting at the right spot to knock down the opponent. It is useless to hit many punches at the wrong  spots , if you hit the right spot, one sting will send the opponent to the floor. Some boxers stay calm and endure the pain when they are hit several times and they will wait for their vital punch like the left hook.  We need not unleashed our hits aimlessly but to be focus  and hit the right spot with all your might.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee is a very simple philosophy which means avoid danger and preserve your strength by following the wind and be focus and unleash your might at the right time and at the right spot.  A great tribute to the greatest world heavy weight champion of all times.

Om Shanti/

When God die, where is our hope ?

How can God die ? God is forever and almighty.  If God can die , he is not God. But, in the past, all the Gods or Saints die and yet, they are remember for their good deeds and have been respected greatly. Jesus died on the cross, Buddha died after eating  rotten meat, Prophet Mohammed also die a natural death, Mother Teresa die of old age, the Pope John Paul also died of old age and list goes on and on.  The latest is the passing of Sai Baba. He also died of old age and without living a will. He has predicted that he will die in his early 90's.  I would rather consider them as great teachers of their time in this world.

If there is no God, who can we be so perfect ? We have a pair of legs mend for walking or running and have  a pair of eyes which can see , a pair of ear which can hear and a mouth fill with the sense of taste and a nose which can distinguish the different smells. A private part which we can pee and shit. A perfect blood circulation system and a pair of lungs to breath. Everything is in perfect motion and function harmoniously. How can it be so perfect ? How can a big bang create this chemistry and biology ? It is impossible even through evolutions. Why can we evolve to have only one eye, one nose and one ear? Why is it in pairs and in such perfect balance. The only explanation is that there is a creator and this creator is an almightly person. This is the easiest way to explain. Period.

Then why are there so many different beliefs and so many religions and so many ways to explain our existence. There is only one creator and every religion is created by the different teachers of their time. Then through the years of evolution, the people make the rules, stories and make believes to explain their existence.  Buddhism in India, Hinduism is from India, Prophet Mohamed and Jesus from the Middle East and Mother Teresa and the Pope from the West. All exist during different times and their legacy is spread by their followers. Man are intelligent creatures and they fantasize and spread the believes.

Based on my analogy, everything different is created for a purpose by Man.  All the rules and beliefs are used to protect their teachings. Generally, every religion is good and it helps Man to manage their lives. Lets look through the curtains or the walls like what Maharaji told us. If we peel of each layers , we will see the core. All these layers are laid by Man over the years but the core remains the same. Finally, there is only one creator and it does not matter who you can him. Finally, all the Man are the same.

World bank report: Skilled Malaysians are leaving...

Joseph Sipalan • 2011-04-28 12:23:08 +0000
Malaysia faces a rising trend of skilled human capital outflow, which could partly be attributed to low confidence in career prospects, wages and inclusiveness in the country.

The World Bank, in the fourth issue of its Malaysia Economic Monitor (MEM) report, pointed out that the three issues figured prominently among Malaysians currently living overseas based on an online survey conducted in February this year.

The survey covered nearly 200 respondents, with about half made up of students aged 24 years and below, while the remainder are mostly aged between 25 and 40 years and are working overseas.

World Bank senior economist Philip Schellekens acknowledged that the survey’s small sample size would not be entirely representative of the estimated 300,000 skilled Malaysians living abroad, but pointed out that it still gives an indication of some of the driving factors behind Malaysia’s brain drain.

Based on the survey, 66 percent of the respondents cited career prospects as the main reason for their lack of interest in working in Malaysia, followed closely by social injustice (60 percent) and compensation or wages (54 percent).

One interesting point that Schellekens raised was that about 81 percent of the respondents were Chinese, indicating an “ethnic component” to skilled human capital migration out of the country.

He said their findings, though in many cases anecdotal, underscore the need for the government to speed up structural reforms that focus on merit and inclusiveness, as promised by the much-touted New Economic Model (NEM).

On top of macro-scale reforms that need to be implemented at the policy-making level, Schellekens added that the government should also engage the Malaysian diaspora directly through programmes such as the recently launched TalentCorp Malaysia.

“Brain drain is a symptom of underlying factors; it is not a problem in itself,” he said during a summary presentation of the MEM in Kuala Lumpur today.

It’s not all bad for Malaysia

Schellekens noted however that despite a rising trend of skilled labour joining the ranks of at 1 million Malaysian diaspora found largely in Organisation of Economic Cooperation Development (OECD) member countries, he said the country has yet to suffer heavily from the brain drain.

At the moment, he said Malaysia’s tertiary education system is capable of sufficiently replenishing the number of skilled workers moving out of the country.

Schellekens added that the country would also benefit from increased remittances that could alleviate liquidity constraints, additional experience and financial capital from return migrations and also facilitating exchange of goods and knowledge.

He stressed however that the benefits need to be tempered with the potential loss of quality in skilled labour, as it is the norm for the best of the best to be the first ones to go.

Schellekens noted that this could be detrimental for Malaysia, which is aiming to achieve high-income status in less than 10 years, compounded by the high rate of emigration of unskilled workers and a 25 percent dip in the influx of skilled expatriates into the country.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit, Nor Mohamed Yakcop. acknowledged that there is still much the government needs to do to convince Malaysians to come back while at the same time retaining talent.

“There are so many things we need to do. There is the wisdom of sequencing, where we go for the low-lying fruits first and fight the battles we can win quickly before going for bigger challenges.

“But we are really sincere in what we are doing; we are really sincere in implementing the NEM and being inclusive... as Malaysians, they should feel that there is no glass ceiling (in career prospects) in Malaysia,” he said at a press conference after the event.

A borderless world - a working perspective

Today, one of my staff , B told me that she got an offer to work in Singapore with a salary 2.5 times her salary times. I told her that I have a BIL , working in Singapore for the past 10 years and I have another nephew who is working in Hong Kong for the past 3 years. I have also a few friends who migrated to Australia and is now working there.  Now, everywhere is so near and with the budget airlines covering many destinations, some of them is coming back weekly over the weekends if they are working in Singapore and for those working in HongKong, they can affort once  in two months flying back to Penang.

The world is rapidly changing and air travel is very convenient  and simple. You can pre- booked your flight many months ahead at a special rate which is very much affordable. There was a survey on  Malaysian working in overseas and there are three main reasons: Prospect of career advancement, Inclusiveness and salary. There are about 300,000 Malaysians working overseas and most of them are skilled or professionals. Malaysian are very mobile because they are skilled in Mandarin and English which is widely used in the Asian region. Language is a powerful tool of communications especially the Chinese, they can easily assimilated themselves into the Asian countries.

The ease of travel and lucrative offers will continue to inspire young and skillful Malaysians to move overseas . They earn their salary in foreign currencies and invest in Malaysia. If they earn in S$, they can buy property in Malaysia with a more than 50 pct discount as the S$ is 2.4 times over the Ringgit. But, I have told B that once you earn foreign income, you cannot earn in Ringgit because the salary difference is a lot. Once, she goes overseas , she cannot come back to work except to retire or go into business. This is one of the side effects of working overseas.

Life in the fast lane is not for everybody. We have to balance between family life and our earning power. The balancing is a very personal thing and it varies with each individual. Working is a job for some people but for others, it could be less work and leisure or a lay back life is good for some. It all depends on each person's need and passion. Life in Penang Island would totally different from Singapore and Hong Kong. Some dwell well in night life in Hong Kong and some people would like the discipline life style in Singapore and facing the concrete jungle. There is a Chinese saying "It takes a same brand of rice to feel one thousand different person".

Wherever one maybe, it is a personal quest for us to find our dreams and fulfill our needs and to find happiness.  Money is not everything but everything needs money. This is a realistic world and nothing is for free. So, open your wisdom eye and look within to find your personal quest.

Guan Yu, Justice, Honor and Righteousness - our basic characters

What is my message ? It just strikes me because I have seen so many shabby characters during the past few days. They are either sneaky fellas who would stab your back as you turn or those CYA ( cover your ass) chaps who lacks back bones and balls to handle the issues and those lalang fellas who will flow with the wind and so many  unjust variations. I saw a movie advertisement on Guan Yu in the newspaper and it reminds me that nowadays, it is so difficult to find people of his calibre in these wacky generation. Everyone is for himself and one's survival is above all.

I have a statute of Guan Yu in my house  and it is facing the main door.  I hope he will chase away the devils and also shabby chaps. His face is stunt and firm with a long flowing beard.  I have briefly read his story and I admire is commitment and loyalty. Yes, loyalty to his sworn brothers and leaders. He fights without fear , he talks when he is asked or when necessary and he is fair in his judgement. He is bold and have big balls and is very courageous when in  battle. We can totally rely on him for executing the task assigned to him.

Yes, in business or in any business organization, we need such fellas who is a team player without any malice. We do not want to play water polo while our team mates try to pull off our swimming trunk under the water. The feeling is despair and how can we win the battle or the game. These lowly chaps looks supportive above the water while they play our "balls" under the water. It would be better to expose them and show them we know their true colours above the water and get rid of them once and for all if we have the say.  But, if we don't have the say, we will need to bite our lips and find away to counter their hidden hands. Maybe, we should consider cutting their hands off or play the game with less players. This counter-productive and evil minded bastards should be told to behave themselves  and we should try to stand at the back of them to protect our ass.

If we can change the situation, we should do it and chase this lowly characters off but it is not, beware and behold and the necessary precaution to protect ourselves and keep our eyes open wide. There is saying " There is a knife hiding behind the smile ". We should try to recognize this type of smile and exposure them. There are people who pray to Guan Yu to protect them but this is too superstitious and hopeful. We need bigger balls to stand up to them and be mindful towards them. Righteousness will prevail in the end as darkness only prevails when there is no light. So, let there be light and these shadows or shadowy characters will disappear.

Sai Baba - laid to rest (news)

New Delhi, India  -- Famed Indian spiritual guru Sri Sathya Sai Baba was laid to rest Wednesday a hundreds of thousands of followers bid a tearful farewell to the ascetic they revered as a living god.
Hymns rang through his ashram at his hometown of Puttaparthi in southern India as his body was sprinkled with petals and holy water before a private burial behind a maroon curtain.

Hindu funerals generally involve cremation, but infants and saintly figures are buried.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba died Sunday at age 85 of respiratory failure.

A number of luminaries attended the funeral conducted with full state honors.
On Tuesday, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Italian-born head of his Congress party, Sonia Gandhi, paid their tribute as they filed past the guru's saffron-robed body placed in a glass casket and sat beside it as a mark of respect.

Recognizable with his trademark puff of dark hair, Sri Sathya Sai Baba claimed to be a reincarnation of Sai Baba of Shirdi, one of India's greatest spiritual leaders, who died in 1918.

Devotees believed Sri Sathya Sai Baba had supernatural powers. However, critics accused him of fraud and sexual abuse -- allegations he denied.

In a hospital bulletin on Sunday, doctors did not use the word 'death' to announce his passing.
It said he was "no more with us physically" and that he left "his earthly body."

In his condolence message on the day Sri Sathya Sai Baba died, Singh remembered the spiritual leader for inspiring millions to lead a meaningful life regardless of their religions.

"His teachings were rooted in the universal ideals of truth, right conduct, peace, love and nonviolence," Singh said.

If it is not mend to be, it will not happen.

Sometimes, we try very hard but we are not successful. There could be many reasons that can prevent the happening. There is no such thing as plan to fail but only fail to plan. It is incomprehensible why certain plans fail to happen.  In the Chinese chess game, one wrong move, the whole game can be lost. So, many factors need to be synchronized and fall into its rightful places for an event to be successfully launched in perfection.

If things are not mend to be, it will not happen. So, we can only try to make things happen but it depends on its destiny. We can take good care of our health , our diet and we do plentiful of exercise but this does not mean that we can live into a ripe old age.  But, if we take care of all these factors, the chancees is that we can live longer. Nothing is assured and tomorrow is never guaranteed.

Wise man should live longer as they are wise enough to understand suffering and the meaning of life and they meditate for extended time but this does not mean they live longer. Once, I was told that a Kungfu expert who practice his martial arts everyday and he died at 55 of age due to Cancer. There are many such stories and I was also told by  my BIL James that he goes for Cancer checks very two months but finally, he was diagnose of Cancer. Things happen mysteriously and in its own way and at its own timing. It happens when you less expects it.

So, let it be. It is happens, it is good but after we have put in our best efforts and it still fail, we have to accept it and we should appreciate the process. It is easy to say than done as the negative results could be still hurtful. But, we have to realize what can we do. Can we change the result by feeling sad , hurtful and upset ? The result is still the same and we have put it on our self to feel bad about it.  We should stand up, wipe off the dirt from our face and body and move on rather than stay and cry over the spilled milk. Yes, we should find another cow to replace the milk without reducing our effort in the follow up process. Before, we do that we should have a good laugh and admire our strength in pursuing our dreams.

Please do not think this act as an heroic act but a simple philosophy and belief that failures is part of life and if there is no failures, there will not be any successes. Failure is the Mother of Success. We are  mend to fail a few times before one success and if we are ready for it and accepts it, it will not be hurtful or painful. It is just another process to realize our dreams.

Sai Baba - legacy

Sathya Sai Baba's death triggers fight for his £5.5 billion empire

The death of an Indian guru who built up a worldwide following of up to 50 million people has triggered an unholy scramble for control of his £5.5 billion empire.

Sathya Sai Baba's claims to divinity, and his apparent ability to magic holy items out of thin air were enough to win him an army of devotees, including celebrities such as Goldie Hawn, Sarah Ferguson and Hard Rock cafe founder Isaac Tigrett.
India's president and prime minister both attended his latest birthday celebrations.
Their devotion was tested to the limits in recent years by persistent allegations that the guru indulged in widespread sexual abuse of young acolytes at his ashram in Puttaparthi in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
Yet even when video footage proved beyond doubt that his "miracles" were simple sleight of hand and he was implicated in the murders of four followers, millions still refused to believe the worst.
His death on Sunday, however, is another matter. Sai Baba had built his empire on the myth that he was the reincarnation of an earlier – and much loved – Indian saint of the same name. In doing so, he had prophesied his own death at the age of 96 – and his reincarnation eight years later.

A beautiful piece of music during rush hour (ext)

Interesting story and a reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us during this frenetic time of year! An amazing experiment... what would you have done?

A Violinist in the Metro

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of an social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

A miracle or a wasteful hope : Re-incarnation .....

Do you believe in miracle ? Do you believe in re-incarnation ?  After death of Sai Baba, millions of his fellowers are hopeful that he will come back to life after 7 days of chanting , just like Jesus who is said to re-resurrect himself after he was killed. Yes, why can't Sai Baba come back to life, he has perform so many miracles and have cured so many people of terminal illness and he has create objects from thin air. Everybody who is contact with him is blessed in one way or another. It must that he will return to his life form.

Sai Baba died of a heart failure according to the Doctors. Can Sai Baba re-create a new heart or repair his disease heart and come back alive ? Medically, it is not possible for he is dead and gone. But, re-incarnation, it maybe possible. Buddhism believes in re-incarnation and people have many past lives.  When the Dalai Lama is death, the Tibetan monks will search for his incarnation and will go far and wide for look for his appearance. After locating a few likely candidates, the candidates will be brought to the Palace in Tibet and they will go  through a few test.  The personal items of the deceased Dalai Lama will be  placed on a table including other items and the selected candidates will asked to locate his personal items.  Out of all the items placed on the table, the successful candidates will need to identify three personal items and show the monks how it has been used during the deceased Dalai Lama's existence in the Palace. This selection process is very secretive and careful.  The successful candidate will be trained in Buddhist teachings and is expected to show strong understanding in the Buddhism texts.

Perhaps, Sai Baba will come back in this form rather then re-resurrecting from his death. Sometimes, he can come back in the existence of another person or in the dreams of his followers.  He has left behind US$9 billion in trust and he will need to tell his followers his plan to use the funds , otherwise, the whole sect will be in a limbo. Buddha died in the year, he expected it while Sai Baba was supposed to die at 93 years old but he died earlier than expected.

In the life time of this Universe, there is a belief that a different Great Teacher at certain times and they could be a re-incarnation or a new teacher with strong wisdom to guide and save the millions. Jesus, Buddha, Sai Baba, Prophet Mohammed ,etc are great teachers of their time. After Sai Baba, there could be another Great Teacher  on the way.  Just watch out....

Namaste.

Sai Baba - Expecting a miracle or a wasteful hope ? (News).

BHUBANESWAR: Hundreds of devotees of spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba started special prayers in city, swinging between hope and despair, believing that the seer will come alive again. While several devotees thought that there would be a miracle and Baba will come alive again, many others said he was still alive.

"Sai Baba will show another miracle by speaking to us again," said Subhranshu Mohanty, a devotee, who had recently visited the spiritual leader.

After the news of his death came in, the devotees started chanting Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra (invocation to conquer death) at the Sathya Sai temple in Kharavelanagar. The mantra will be chanted for 72 hours and after that Baba will come alive, the devotees said.

"Baba will return. He will come back to his mortal body," said Madhusudan Barik, a devotee from Puri district who was in city.

"Sai Baba will talk to us again. He can't die," said Paresh Mishra, a devotee from Dhenkanal, who had come to the city temple after hearing the news of his death. "Doctors are nobody to pronounce the death of God. We are nobody to comment on death of God. It is his wish. He knows the best and does the best," he added.

Some devotees believe the spiritual leader took impending death of a devotee onto himself to save the devotee. "He probably heard the prayer of a beloved devotee and took his death onto him," said Chitrangada Das.

The death of Sai Baba ( news )

THE death of Sathya Sai Baba has left a deep void among his followers worldwide.

The spiritual guru, who was regarded by his followers as a manifestation of God in human form, had stated in 1963 that Prema Sai Baba will be the proclaimed future incarnation of him.
But the incarnation was reportedly to take place in 2023, with Sai Baba saying he would die at the age of 96 in 2022.
Now that Baba has died prematurely at 85, nobody knows when the next spiritual leader will arrive.
Baba was reported to be the rebirth of a former guru, Shirdi Sai Baba, who died in 1918.
Whether a new guru will be reborn or not, the focus now is how Baba's US$9bil (RM27bil) giant trust and the international township of Puttaparthi will be managed.
His trust runs a university complex, a 220-bed hospital, a world religion museum, a planetarium, a railway station, a hill-view stadium, a music college, an administrative building, an airport and an indoor sports stadium.
Among Baba's many financial supporters was the former owner of the Hard Rock Cafe chain of restaurants, Isaac Burton Tigrett, who went to live in Puttaparthi and donated much of his fortune to the trust.
To Baba's followers, Puttaparthi is a major pilgrimage town because many found hope and solace there.
I first met Baba in Puttaparthi on Nov 7, 2009 and received his darshan (blessings), an understanding which has left an impactful impression in my life.
I still remember that when I set foot into his renowned ashram Prasanthi Nilayam (Abode of Peace), I had to go through airport-style security checks, including walking through a metal detector and being frisked.
Cameras, mobile phones, pens and sharp objects were prohibited.
Devotees were overwhelmed when Baba, with his trademark afro-style hairdo and saffron-coloured robes, arrived in a wheelchair.
There were more than 10,000 devotees at the indoor stadium-like hall and some followers cried when he was pushed close to them while several rushed to hand him letters and wedding invitations for blessings.
He did not speak and when he came close to me, he looked into my eyes and I felt a sudden surge of energy rushing into my body and an electrifying feeling. I kneeled with my hands clasped in prayer and bowed.
I was later invited by his senior disciple to a private room to meditate for a few minutes.
This was the closest I have been with Baba and since that day, there has been some inexplicable connection drawing me towards him and I have made five visits to his abode.
My last visit was to attend his grand 85th birthday on Nov 23 last year which attracted over a million people, including the Indian president, prime minister, ministers, celebrities and top businessmen.
On that day, two helicopters dropped rose petals, blessed by Baba, from the sky on us. For decades, Baba was known for his supernatural powers, including an ability to conjure objects and vibhuti (holy ash) out of thin air, remember past lives and cure terminal diseases.
Many who arrive there come “expecting” but return “accepting” the true purpose of life and of the power of love and compassion.
During my visits, I did not witness any miracle but devotees in his presence returned experiencing marvels and a sense of relief, peace, fulfillment, joy and being cured.
One of the best gifts Baba has given my family was his teachings on human values through his balvikas (Sunday classes) for children, which were conducted for free by his devotees worldwide.
My three children grew up learning the values as an art of living and now they have grown up to be fine examples of responsible citizens who display unconditional love, care and selfless service to mankind.
For thousands of his followers, the death of their spiritual leader is the loss of hope they had in life.

Beautiful thoughts (ext)

Life is not about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship, it's not how we care in the beginning, but how much we care till ending.

Some people always throw stones in your path. It depends on you what you make with them. Wall or Bridge? Remember you are the architect of your life.

`Search a beautiful heart, but don't search a beautiful face'. Coz beautiful things are not always good, but good things are always beautiful.

It’s not important to hold all the good cards in life. But it`important how well you play with the cards which you.

Often when we lose all hope & think this is the end, God smiles from above and says, `relax dear its just a bend. Not the end. Have Faith and have a successful life.

Inheritance from grandma ...... A lighter side (ext)

*A dying granny was talking to her granddaughter. "I may die any minute so
I want you to inherit my farm including the villa, tractor, the farmhouse
and all the livestock and $22,389,630.00 cash".
"WoW!!" said the granddaughter 'Thanks granny, I didn't know you even had a
farm & all this wealth!
Where is it?? **
“**Grandma : "Facebook."*

A joke a day, make life better….

Have a nice day

If you are unhappy, you asked for it.

I heard that a friend, SL is unhappy and feeling sad. Well, that is because you asked for it. Often people who are difficult and stubborn are unhappy people because they have strong opinions and fixed principles and they do not want to see the views of others. Not a slightest attempt to compromise. They don't look at themselves and is not aware of their faults but rather refusing to see the views of others. So, they deserved to be miserable. These people need to change and realize that the bigger picture is more important rather than holding to their narrow views and thoughts.

When we see a half glass of water, it is half full or half empty. It depends on our interpretation , wisdom and judgement.  You can call it half full and I can call it half empty. Both is correct but the thoughts behind it is different. When we say it is half full, we are looking at it positively and there are still water in the glass . But, we say it is half empty, it has a negative feeling and that is, it is getting less and less. The right thoughts will inspire the passion and action to make our life better.

In my past experience, those people who are involved in specialized fields like lawyers, accountants and doctors, etc have strong principles and opinions. Frankly, they can be very stubborn because they are taught that way by the books.  Yes, by the books and that is their answer. If this is the case, they don't understand what other people is saying when it is out of the book. This is very natural because their views are in the box and they cannot think out of the box and their views also depends on the size of the box. This is the ugly truth about these specialist. If they do not update themselves, their box would be getting smaller and smaller while the development in their fields gets wider and wider.

My advise to these people is that they do not only update their knowledge in their respective fields to improve the size of the knowledge box but to read subjects which is out of their professional boxes. This is not the case of unlearning to learn but to learn other subjects relating to other fields or general in nature. I have seen those professionals who only read books relating to their jobs but do not read any other subjects. They often say that they do not have the time and there is so many subjects to read and they do not know what to read or what is their passionate subjects. This excuses will make them into specialized robots with less feelings for others and less wisdom to manage their lives. It is important to read and continue to read or force yourself to read and search for the real purpose in knowledge. There is a lot of guidance and wisdom in the books. All types of books.  There is a Chinese saying " In the books, there is golden houses, in the books, there is plentiful of delicious food". Trust me, it is true and don't stop reading , there are plenty of treasures and you will get "rich".  Rich in your life.

Stop been unhappy and take a good look at yourself in the mirror.  Look at yourself, be aware of  your weakness and improve on it. If you do not see things the way other people sees it, it is not necessary wrong. Shift your angle and see it through the eyes of the people around you. You will see it if you try hard. Keep shifting your angles and you will see more things in different lights. Nothing is absolute and there is always room for compromise.

For a start , don't make other people look stupid by imposing  your own inflexible interpretations due to your lack of knowledge in handling the situation while you concentrate to re-enforce your stubbornness. Sometimes, you need to step back to have a bigger and clearer view and perhaps thought this action, you will realise your stupidity just in time to make yourself unhappy. The choice is yours and the sadness or unhappiness come with that choice.

Today is Good Friday....

Beautiful is not always good but good things is always beautiful.  This is a good way to put things in the right focus. In the real world, not all beautiful girls makes good wives but good natured and kind hearted girls will always make beautiful wives. Beauty is only temporary and the inner beauty is like a good wine, the longer you keep it , the better will be the body, smell and taste. However, most of the time, we are captured by the beauty and after that , we live like slaves. OMG !

Today is good Friday to the Catholic Christians and they celebrate it in humility and they abstain from meal or they fast the day with one meal. .(Day of Fasting :The Catholic Church treats Good Friday as a fast day, which in the Latin Rite of the Church is understood as having only one full meal (but smaller than a regular meal) and two collations (a smaller repast, two of which together do not equal one full meal) and on which the faithful abstain from eating meat. In countries where Good Friday is not a day of rest from work, the afternoon liturgical service is usually put off until a few hours after the recommended time of 3 p.m.) That is how I understand it. But, all Fridays are good and we should be thankful for the day as the following two days are rest days. How wonderful it is after a week of hard days work. Especially, when we are working like a dog. For me, I have an extremely hard week having to juggle between various job assignments , meetings and been audited by our external auditors at the same time. There was some unpleasant moments which have upsets me but I have mellow much and experience enough to take it at a my own pace. These are moments of temporary discomforts and time will solve all these unpleasant encounters. Life have its ups and downs and if we expect and accept it, it will not be a surprise.  It could have been better if the people involved have given more  time , more thoughts and more planning. However, since it was done is a haphazard way, then we cannot expect perfection but a bit of tension and unhappiness.

Like what is taught in the Buddhist teaching , what is given to you but not accepted by you , will not hurt you. If people give us problem or unhappiness, if we do not accept it, these problems and unhappiness will remain with the giver. Well, this is a wonderful concept and we need practice until it is part of our life. Yes, Buddhism is not a religion but a way of life. A way of life to achieve enlightenment and enter into the world of Nirvana. In this religion, we, our self have to practice and go through the path and achieve enlightenment by our own effort and not like other religion which depends on the Creator to lift us to where we should be. It is much tougher in the Buddhist way. I am looking forward to two days of good resting and recuperation. Hooray !

To all my Christian friends, a Good Friday. Every Friday is a good day and TGF !!!

Sudden death of Alan Tang - the student prince

He passed away after suffering a stroke and a heart attack at 64, abit too young to die. His friends were shocked because he was fit and in high spirit. Some one switch off the light in him from above. When I was a young man, he was a very popular actor as he was tall and handsome. Some kind of a white knight with a lot of beautiful dames around him.  He was envy by many young men.

Talking about life and death, everything is so uncertain and anything can happen anytime. Alan's death reminds me of two friend who died playing active sports. Both died at 49. One of them died during   a hockey competition in Alor Star and another friend died after a badminton game while resting during the break. There is a Chinese saying " when the King of  Hades want you to die at 3am , how can you wait until 5am".  This means that the time of death of each person is pre-destined. How hard you struggle , you still have to go.

In Buddhism, Death is the beginning of a new life. When there is life , there is death ,both takes turn in d\the cycle of life.  The law of Karma supports the death and re-birth  religious concept in Buddhism. If we  gather more merits, this merits will be brought to the next life and if sufficient merits are accumulated, your life would go up a higher realm until you finally go out of the realm upon receiving enlightenment.  In Buddhism, if you plant charitable seeds, you will get charitable fruits. So , always do good deeds and you will have good karma.

Everything is impermanent and forever changing, Like Buddha said " when we are born , we bring nothing with us and after our death, we also bring nothing with us. So, what we have is the present and live in the [present. The past is gone , the future yet to come and you only have the present. To all folks. don't  hang on too tight, we must learn to let go  and when the time comes, we are ready to let go.

Dealing with Insult : Lord Buddha (Ext)

The Buddha explained how to handle insult and maintain compassion.

One day Buddha was walking through a village. A very angry and rude young man came up and began insulting him. "You have no right teaching others," he shouted. "You are as stupid as everyone else. You are nothing but a fake."

Buddha was not upset by these insults. Instead he asked the young man "Tell me, if you buy a gift for someone, and that person does not take it, to whom does the gift belong?"

The man was surprised to be asked such a strange question and answered, "It would belong to me, because I bought the gift."

The Buddha smiled and said, "That is correct. And it is exactly the same
with your anger. If you become angry with me and I do not get insulted, then the anger falls back on you. You are then the only one who becomes unhappy, not me. All you have done is hurt yourself."

"If you want to stop hurting yourself, you must get rid of your anger and become loving instead. When you hate others, you yourself become unhappy. But when you love others, everyone is happy."

The young man listened closely to these wise words of the Buddha. "You are right, o Enlightened One, "he said. "Please teach me the path of love. I wish to become your follower."

The Buddha answered kindly, "Of course. I teach anyone who truly wants to learn. Come with me."

Beautiful Quotes
If you are right then there is no need to get angry
And if you are wrong then you don't have any right to get angry.
Patience with family is love,
Patience with others is respect,
Patience with self is confidence
and
Patience with GOD is faith.

Never Think Hard about PAST,
It brings Tears...
Don't Think more about FUTURE,
It brings Fears...
Live this Moment with a Smile,
It brings Cheers.!!!!

Every test in our life makes us bitter or better,
Every problem comes to make us or break us,
Choice is our whether we become victim or victorious !!!
Search a beautiful heart not a beautiful face.
Beautiful things are not always good
but good things are always beautiful.

Remember me like pressed flower in your Notebook.
It may not be having any fragrance
but will remind you of my existence forever in your life.
Do you know, why God created gaps between fingers?
So that someone who is special to you, comes and fills those gaps by holding your hands forever.

Inner peace....

If you can resist complaining and
boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat plain food every
day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved
ones are too busy to give you any time,
If you can take criticism and
blame without resentment,
If you can conquer tension
without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

Then probably, you are a..................................

Family Dog... Hahax

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

Honey, Money, Sweetie

An elderly lady was invited to an old friend’s home for dinner one evening.
She was impressed by the way her lady friend preceded every request to her husband with endearing terms such as: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, etc.
The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love.

While the husband was in the living room, her lady friend leaned over to her hostess to say, 'I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your husband all those loving names'.
The elderly lady hung her head.
'I have to tell you the truth,' she said, 'his name slipped my mind about 10 years ago, and I'm scared to death to ask the cranky old asshole what his name is.'

Why friends cannot be lovers ?

Relationship is very  delicate and fragile. There has to be a basis or foundation before a relationship can last. Otherwise, a simple misunderstanding could blow the relationship apart. It is even worst if a relationship have an agenda or motive , such relationship is shallow and manipulative. Friends can remain as friends or become best friends but if they cross the line which separates friendship and love, it is no turning back and like a mirror when it is crack , it will never be the same again. It is just like seeing somebody naked and pretending nothing has happen. This is only on the surface but deep inside, the attraction will be entitely  different.

When friends become lover, it is a different ball game all together.  The feelings is intimate and deep and so , it is more fragile than friendship.  A small misunderstanding is more severe when we are in love than when we are friends. The hurt is much greater and takes a longer time to heal. As for friends, if there is a strong bond, the hurt is much less and the  wounds will heal faster.

In love, the sacrifice is greater like Romeo and Juliet. They can die for each other and their bond is so strong that it cannot be broken up. Friendship on the other hand, there is a different kind of sacrifice and the extend is far less. There is a limit in friendship and when the expectation could not meet, the friendship will break apart . But, expectations in  a friendship is that we do not need to see each other everyday but for love, it is meant to be tie up together. Absence makes the heart fonder while friendship can last a longer distance.

Based on the above analogy, we know why friends cannot be lovers or lovers cannot be friends. Crossing the line is a one way ticket and there is no returns. But, in movies , we can see that alot of married couples remain good friends after they are divorced.  Every few people can bear the pain and hurt of been together after their divorced  and if they can be friends , it is because of their common bond in their children. Most of this happy endings are only in the movies. Most of the time is sad movies but rarely happy endings.

Friendship is fragile and love is dynamite  and the line separating the two is the entry to a different world. So, before we cross over, we have to think and decide what we want. Sometimes, it is better to remain as friends and it will be happier. But, if we cannot resist, it is fate that drawn us together .

My friend, HK

I was in KL today and after a morning meeting , I wanted to see my old friend  HK. He has been very busy lately and did not called on me when he was in Penang. I sent him an sms to invite him for lunch and he accepted. We met in Hilton Sentul and had Tim Sum for lunch.

He was as fat as ever but abit sun-tanned and looks healthy. I enquire about his activities lately and he told me that he has having fun with  his girl friends.  He is dating a girl in Penang who was introduced by his friend in China. His friend was from Penang before going to China and this girl was his former girl friend and now he had a wife in China.  Anyway, HK was divorced and he has  one  girl and two boys. All of them have grown up. Now, he spends his time golfing and dating girls. I asked him what is his plans and he told me that he is just having a good time to jazz up his boring life.

The last time, I introduced a female friend to him in Penang and he told me that she looks like his sister. After that , I stop introducing girls to him. He likes young and petite girls when he is a six footer and have a heavy frame. Since, I know him , he has been restless and he seek sex to spice up his life. He told me that he must have sex before he grows old. This is his  hobby and past time.

On my way to the Hotel, I was in a taxi and the driver, who is an old man also brought up the subject of sex. He said that when he was young , he is hungry for sex and during his mid age, he struggles to get money to start a family and after having some money, he go seeking sex before his fire runs out. He is very open and frank about his life and he said most people behave this way.

Yeah, these stories make male appear like hunters and sex freaks. There is a joke about men and they think of having sex 90 percent of their time. As a man, I don't agree with the thinking . Yes, sex is important but it has to depend on the partner and the occasion. There are better things to do in life than only thinking of sex. This is only a moment of leisure and pleasure and it could spell trouble for some people for the rest of their life.

Some people can spend their time seeking love and sex and spend thousands to win the passion of  the girl of their choice at bars and night clubs.  HK told me that it is now very popular  in Kl to buy flowers for their chosen girls at night spots.  This gimmick have long been available in Penang. If a customer buy the flower and present to the girl, the girl will use the flowers to exchange for cash with the cashier. The flower is not for free, the customers have to pay to it before presenting it to the girls. Yes, there are many lonely man who have money to throw around and pays for the passion of the flower girls.

Some times, people use this way to relieve their stress and to spend their lonely hours. Other people drink heavily to forget their troubles and some choose to frequent Karoeke joimts to relieve their stress and pent up feelings. Others could be sex hunters to relieve off their sexual fantasies. There is nothing to judge and who are we to judge as long as this people are happy with their life style. This is their choice and if they can manage it without hurting other people , it should be alright. But, once they hurt others, then it is wrong.

These people could not find their answers in religion and like the saying goes " Tonight we get drunk  and tomorrow's trouble, we shall bear it tomorrow". Today, what is done is done.

When Evils prevail .......

There is a saying evil prevails when good men choose to keep silent.  This is a ball-less or gutless act and it is self preserving. This is absolutely wrong if we look at it righteously but some good people choose to preserve themselves at all cost. They do not look at the bigger picture. There is a Chinese saying "If  Human beings do not protect themselves first, the sky will end and the earth will be destroy". I wonder who is the author of this phrase. He must be a realist and a self preservation expert.

The author is not entirely wrong because we have to preserve our self before we can fight evils but not to the extent of letting the evil acts hurt others. Tolerance should have a limit. From history, we have seen that in events of conflicts and civil wars, some heroes will emerge. Trouble times breed herons. So, the Creator have its checks and balances. When there is too much black, he will add white to make a perfect color of grey.

During the recent Tsunami in Japan which caused the radiation leak from the various nuclear plants in Fukushima, there was a story that there is a group of engineers who risk their life to stop the radiation leak by trying to re-start the electricity to their cooling system. Some of them was exposed to radiation and was hurt. What makes them want to combat the evils when their life is at stake. This decision takes a lot of courage and sacrifice.  They could have chose to protect themselves first and let others do the risky job. But, they did not and choose to stand out and take the bull by the horn.  So, there is courage in all of us and this courage will come out at the right time when the need arises.  So, Evil , you better watch out.

In Penang, there was a dragon boat incident which killed about six people during a training session. There could have been more death if not for a courageous boat man who rush to help the people in trouble after been drag by the strong under current.  His courageous deed  came at the spur of the moment and he did not think about his life or the risk of drowning by acting instantaneously. and spontaneously. In face of danger, the courage will naturally ooze out  from all of us.

Bravo to these heroes and some of them remain nameless or forgotten over time. But, does it really matters. Name or no name, it is the  courageous act that counts. A act to defeat the Evils....Lets pay tribute to the sung and unsung heroes..

Have a nice weekend.

This morning at my yoga session, my teacher told us that Yoga is not only a one person/s exercise and there are stretching exercise which can be done by  two people. There was quite a number of participants and   I  partner my daughter, May and we had a good workout.  After the session, we greet each other " have a nice weekend".  This greeting sound so familiar  and have  been greeted so many times before.

The weekends are meant to rest ourselves and for us to recuperate and rejuvenate. Quite often then not, it turns out to be more stressful. We  have so many errands to run and so little time to rest.  When it is Saturday, we have Sunday to rest  and when it turns to Sunday, our mind will be on Monday , a start of a fresh week. On Friday, we call out , Thank God is Friday and on Sunday, we flaunt , OMG or Oh, My God, tomorrow is Monday. It is very funny, we try to catch the weekends , hoping that it will slow down. But , how much time we have , it is still not enough. In our heart, we question why Time  move so fast but we do not know that it is us that is moving fast. Time is constant and it is we, who is moving. We never slow down to see what is happening to us or around us and how beautiful is our breath and our surrounding. We never notice or aware how important are the things besides us.

I read heard a dharma by Ajshn Brahm  and in his session, he mentioned that he has been travelling to his monastery on top of  a hill every day for the past few years and once, he asked his driver to let him walk up the hill by himself. During the walk, he notice the leaves on the tress and the rocks by the road side and he could realized the beauty he has missed for the past years. He could see the details of  nature and the miracle of  the Universe in the leaves , rocks and trees.  If we slow down, time slow down with us and we see more clearly and deeply.  We can feel the peace in us and also our surroundings.

We do not know how to slow down because our basic character is to move from things to things or fixing one problem to the next and we believe the faster we do it , the more things can be done and the people around us will appreciate us and thinks that we are capable. Speed is another criteria to assess our ability. We eat fast, we drive fast , we walk fast and always targeting our next destination. Our focus is how to reach our destination at the shortest time and other details are not important to us. That is the problem with us, we can only manage a few destinations a day but we missed a million details. So, in our mind, time pass so fast because we can only do a few things a day.  This is the problem with our mind if we are in a hurry. If we slow down, we can see the million of details in the process and we realized that we have done a lot of things and time is slow. This is an illusion of our mind.

We have to learn the technique of slowing down and enjoy all the minute details as we move on with time. If we  eat, we should chew well and enjoy the breaking up of the food in our mouth and if we drive, we should enjoy the beauty of the places we pass instead of concentrating on the traffic and the jams  which will push up our blood pressure. Slow down our breathing and our actions will slow down. Be focus and aware of our breath and enjoy each minute details that is happening around us.  Meditation is another way to slow down our breath and calm our mind.

Try it out and walk slowly, slow down your breath and relax your whole body and simulate yourself into the environment and the space. You will have a happy and wonderful weekend.

Born like this - my view

When I read the article on lady gaga about her new song , born like this, I felt the urge to talk about this matter.  I remembered a Taiwanese TV entertainment slot  "Diamond Club" which conducted a competition on cosmetic make-up and a few of the contestants tried to change their appearance within a scheduled time frame.  I could see miracle happening when they change themselves from a plain Jane to a beauty queen.  From that time on, I never under estimate the power of make-up. It is fabulous.

I don't know what prompted me to connect the song to the cosmetic competition but some how it was connected. Are we real ? In this advanced world, everything can be changed the way we want it. The advancement of plastic surgery and the artistic usage of cosmetics can change our appearance and make us look like another people or a person we like. This is really frightening. Do we need to be born like this? If you remember, I have said in my previous article that we are what we think and now, our look can be changed to what we like. Our mind controls everything including our outer appearance.  Lady Gaga looks beautiful in her musical movies but in real life, she looks like a plain Jane without makeup and her dressing.

In our Chinese culture, the most difficult thing to change in our life is our character. There is a saying " we can easily change the whole dynasty but the character will not move an inch".  Another belief is that " By the third year after birth, our character is fixed for the next 80 years". What we will be , will be. In a behavioural study, human beings are a routine creature. Each person have a comfort zone and we tend to live within the comfort zone. Anything special or out the box will create a sense of danger and instability. This is the fundamental hindrance to change in our thinking and character.

When I watch the TV series, Criminal Minds, the characters in the movie are personal profile experts. To catch a thief , we have to think like a thief and to catch a murderer , we have to think like a murderer. Sometimes, these agents got so deep into the character,  they could not get back to be his real character. Some actors have such experiences and have to live like sthe character for some time before getting to be themselves again.

Basically, we are born with the basic characteristics. For the physical features, we can alter our appearance but if it is internal, we should be aware of  who  we are, what we are  and we should know our weakness and strength and focus to improve our weakness to be stronger and better. If we think that we are born like this and do nothing about it, we will be driven by our basic instinct and our born-with characteristics.

Om Shanti

Another lunch time talk

I woke up at 5.00am and could not sleep again. My mind was very active and want to share my yesterday's experience with you , folks. Life have been hectic for me during the last few days due to work.

I had a lunch yesterday with a friend , KH  who is a motivation speaker together with my colleagues. He have written several books . Friction and real life stories and his special subject is the Art of  War , Sun Tze. This subject is based on SunTze's war tactics and strategy and it has been adapted and convert into business strategies for Companies to compete against each other.  There is a saying " business is like fighting a war ". The philosophy and strategies are quite logical and meaningful. It can also be used in managing our life. There is a very famous strategy which says " knowing yourself and knowing your enemy, will win you thousand battles". It is really very simple if you think about it.  If you know your  enemy's and your own strength and weakness , you can use your strong points to attack his weak points and of course, you will always win.  This is logical , isn't it? Ok, this is not about SunTze, the  Great General in my message. We have talk about other things as well during the lunch.

I asked him how has he been ? He told me that he is still grieving for his wife and hope to join her soon. He qoute the example of  KY Lee, the senior minister in Singapore , who has lost his wife last year and accepting that this is part of life. However close the relationship we have and however import we are, one day , we all will die. This is life. We have to learn to let go.  One of my colleague, R says that Sai Baba, who performs  so  many miracles and have blessed so many  millions  of people , also cannot escape death finally.  The spiritual guru now is very sick.

KH also mentioned that Buddha, the Great Teacher also died at his early eighties after eating a rotten meat given by one of his followers.  Buddha , knew that his time is up and summon his disciples to tell them not to worship him but to spread his teaching before he eat the rotten meat and fell ill and die. This Great teacher , have passed down a great philosophy and way of living.

The next thing we talk about is about Malaysian politics and the various scandals in Malaysia. The exchange of views was quite fun and entertaining. KH, being an eloquent speaker talked about his encounters with the China dolls. He said that the China dolls is aiming for executives who is near their retiring age . For example ,53 or 54. They will target them and will be very nice and loving to their targets so that after their retirement, they could get a share of their retirement benefits.  These scheme is on-going and many retirees are con off their life savings.  KH have a similar encounter and was a target by some China dolls who aims for a lion share of his EPF.  He also mentioned that now , the Vietnamese dolls are also competing for a fair share of the business.

I told him that during one my trip to Bangladesh , I saw an old man with a young Chinese girl at the airport and the girl stick to the man like a leech, pulling the man's  facial hair and holding on lovingly to the man.  At one look, I recognized that she is a China doll.  It is so shameless for these China dolls , who can behave in this manner at a public place.  Shameful dolls.

During the lunch, we have share a lot on our experience and we depart with a feeling that we have a good time together.  I  look forward to seeing KH in the future  and hope that he find his inner peace soon.

Namaste.

Born this way ( news)

Lady Gaga says she channeling late Alexander McQueen

LOS ANGELES - LADY Gaga says she did not write her latest hit song, Born This Way, but rather the late British fashion designer Alexander McQueen did so when he channeled it through her from beyond the grave.

Gaga told Harper's Bazaar magazine that McQueen, who committed suicide by hanging on February 11, 2010, 'planned the whole thing: Right after he died, I wrote Born This Way. I think he's up in heaven with fashion strings in his hands, marionetting away, planning this whole thing.''

When the singer's label decided to release the Born This Way single on the exact one-year anniversary of McQueen's death, Gaga said it confirmed her belief that the British designer was working through her. It was not she who wrote the song, Gaga said. 'He did!', she told the magazine in an interview for its May edition.

McQueen, 40, and Gaga were close friends. The singer wore his iconic lobster-claw shoes in her Bad Romance music video and paid emotional tribute to him in a performance at the Brit Awards in London a week after his death. In a fashion spread for the magazine, Gaga sports her new trademark 'facial horns' - spikes on her face that appear to be protruding from beneath her skin.

The bizarre bumps, also on her shoulders, have been part of a new look ever since she debuted the Born This Way single at the Grammy Awards in February, leading to speculation that Gaga either had plastic surgery or is wearing prosthetics.

'I have never had plastic surgery,' Gaga said. She said the protrusions are 'not prosthetics, they're my bones.' The singer insisted the bones have always been inside her, adding: 'I have been waiting for the right time to reveal to the universe who I truly am.'

The old age ego...

Being old means Mr Know All. I had a friend, ES and he has been a banker for 20 over years and we have been close friends  for many years. We came from the same High School. One day, when we were having lunch, he told me that as he grow older, he cannot tolerate scolding by his boss, who were younger than him.  He feel hurt and angry.  He resigned from the bank and went into business. After a few years of unsuccessful runs, he went back to the banking industry and joined a bank. Once awhile , we have lunch together and he will tell me the same thing which he felt years ago.  He hate to be scolded by his bosses who is younger than him.  But, now he has no choice as he needs a job.

Why do old people feel like that ? It is just ego. Old people suppose to have more experience and knowledge and should be guiding the young but if  it is in a reverse position, it may not be tolerable for some.  There is a Chinese saying, that old people " eat salt more than you eat rice" or "the older the ginger, the more chilli hot it will be ". This is only true if we keep improving our knowledge and skill.  If we stop learning , the younger ones could be more knowledgeable than us.  Intelligence and knowledge do not  simply grow withn age. We will be very wrong to believe that older people should be smarter than the young ones. This is purely a self imposed rule and not been realistic.

Old people are face off because they are faceless.  The need to be respected , the need to be useful or smarter than the young ones is very strong in human beings. But, nowadays, there are CEO's in their late thirties or early forties having more than thousands of people working under them. These young and smart people have good  ideas, the latest knowledge  and the guts to do the right things. However, there are still old people in late sixties and yet they are  capable and passionate and continued to  lead large corporates.

So, it is a fact  that  knowledge and skills do not automatically grow with age. The notion of old means more capable is totally wrong and misleading. Only the able will lead irrespective of their age. The point is that we should constantly and regularly update our self and become better. Some people work very hard and use their hard work to impress their bosses. However, the smarter ones will find time to study to improve their skills and will find new way of doing their job more easily and effectively. The term is "work smart and not only work hard".

If we keep to the notion that the older the better ,  many organizations or corporation will fail to day. Apart from the knowledge and skill , there is need for creativity and new ideas. For those old people, we should not stop the world from turning. If we are capable than the young, we should continue to lead but if we have lost the passion , skill and knowledge, we should let go and let the fittest take over. In this case , it is not only for one's survival but caring for the majority.  If it is time to go, just let go.

We should adopt an open attitude like " survival of the fittest". This understanding is the best for everybody. Going against nature, is not good as we should follow the tide and may the best man win irrespective of his or her age. Once, we realise this philosophy and wisdom, it will be best for everyone.  The earlier we realized this point , the better it will be for all of us.

Namaste.

The joy of living - life is a journey

My friend, SW came for a visit.  After the normal greetings, he start by saying that he just sent his wife and son off to Australia. He told me that his family will be migrating overseas and in June, his eldest son will also leave for Australia and he will be alone in Penang. He preparing himself to be alone in the near future.

He also told me that he attended a retreat last weekend organized by Rinpoche, a Tibetan monk on the subject " The joy of living ". To him, it was wonderful experience and inner wisdom.  The Rinpoche taught him the art of meditation and simple wisdom to enable the practitioner to enjoy the happiness in living. This is a simple introduction to the subject :

This refreshing subject is yet another sign that the next generation of Buddhism is creative, cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary. Born in 1975 in Nepal, the author is among the generation of Tibetan lamas trained outside of Tibet, and he's also a gifted meditator. His brain activity has been measured during meditation, earning him the enviable sobriquet of "happiest man on earth." He fuses scientific and spiritual considerations, explaining meditation as a physical as well as a spiritual process. Mingyur Rinpoche knows from experience that meditation can change the brain. He experienced panic attacks as a child that he was able to overcome through intensive meditation. If diligently practiced, meditation can affect the "neuronal gossip"-his imaginative rendering of brain cell communication-that keeps us stuck in unhappy behaviors. The meditation master offers a wide variety of techniques, counseling ease in practice to avoid boredom or aversion. Less is more; practice shorter periods more often, he says. His approach will be especially welcome for anyone frustrated by meditation or convinced they're "not doing it right." This book is a fresh breath from the meditation room, written with kindnessl

By a slim chance, we met.

Last sSaturday night, out of the blues, my wife told me that she wants to Gurney Plaza Shopping Mall. She has never mentioned to me before that evening. I cancelled my dinner arrangement with my sister and off, we go the Mall.  It was already 7.30 pm and we went around shopping for a while before we had dinner.  After dinner , it was already 9 pm and on the way out of the restaurant, she told me that she wants to go to Parkson. Then, we went into Parkson and we wonder around before she bought a belt. While I was waiting there, I saw a familiar face walking towards me. My friend, SB was standing in front of me. She told me that she has thought of me on that morning.  Ow, it is a strange chance.

It is very normal for us to see our old friends in the Mall or on the street or in restaurants. Our destiny with them often criss cross and it is fate that plan the meeting. SB, have migrated to Australia with her family for more then half a year and before she migrated, she often called me to titillate. Last Chinese New Year Dinner, I was sitting next to her husband in the same table while enjoying the dinner at the invitation of our banker. He told me that he is migrating there in a month.  I asked SB why is she back in Penang and she told me that her mother was not well. On that day, she was out shopping. The chance of meeting her is out of the world and I believe this is pre-destined.

Today, I met another old friend as I was going to buy some herbal tea. He was standing in front of the shop while I was busy talking to my daughter as we were walking. He kept his silence when he saw me in the distance and he only greet me when I was standing in front of her. My daughter, May have actually asked me to go to One-stop mall before going to that herbal shop but I change the plan while I was driving there. All these last minute changes and chance meeting with my friends really refreshes me on fate and destiny.  Like I say before in my previous article, all of us have all the choice in life and when we make a choice, it is a step in our journey.  We are responsible for the path we choose. Just like these two chance meetings, it is the timing and the choice , I choose before our path is crossed.

Life is a journey , not a destination. This is my belief. It is the process and not the end that is important. Wherever we are going, we should enjoy each step and appreciate the people we meet in the journey. We can meet them one time, two times or many times and each time could be the last. We should treat it as the last to appreciate their presence.

To all folks. Treasure and enjoy each steps in your journey and appreciate the people close to you.  Like the Chinese saying goes " We meet in this life but not in the next" . Even if we do meet in the next life, we are different people and in different time and in different situation.
